Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeah forgot about Thylo. All we did was rough her up a little bit. Thylo got plain nasty. Made her sit in on one of his 'which orange jersey design looks better' sessions.

Harsh.

Oh and good luck to skin'n'bones tomorrow. Hope the cookie crumbles your way.

Although last time I grabbed your wheel it looked as those you had porked it up.

Hey Classic1 (or anyone) so this years TDU will be somewhat special in the sense its the beginning of a new era. Given it is probably going to become 'part' of the international furniture are we likely to see more and more euro dogs come down earlier i.e spend all of Jan here to top off their preparations for the season to come?

In a word, no.

If Australia is the arse end of the world, Adelaide is the sphinchter. 23 hour flights, jetlag, gheyness, serial killers, churches and 42 degree Celcius suck.

commonwealth bank classic used to get them out here even.

Jeremey Hunt when he was here had union jack socks on one day. All I could see were a massive blur of pommy flags sprinting away by a bout 5 bike lengths and 150 rpm when he was out here.

I'm jaded. Sure, a few big names have been out before but you arent gonna get the whole circus getting on a long haul flight to Adelaide for a training race in 40C + heat.

The TDU has been running 10 years. The TDU dates have always been the same, with the bay crits and nationals on at the same time as now. The TDU even had UCI points in the past. Why would the big hitters all of a sudden start coming out now just because its a protour race? Nobody gives a fark about the protour anyway.

The Worlds in 2010 will be different because of the prestige.

I loved the bit in the news yesterday where they had an "expert" explaining how the pros are able to cope with training in 30+ degree heat.

Fark me. People here seem to be under the impression you'll spontaneously combust if you do anything other than sit in front of the aircon whenever the temps hit 30. Slap on some bloody sunscreen, freeze a couple of bottles to put on the bike, chuck another in the jersey, and go climb Mt Lofty. Soft barstards

Better to be safe than sorry. Exspecially if you live in Adelaide with all the cereal killaz on the loose.

I don't even own any one of those 'friendship bracelets', so no. No Mexican man-love bracelets, no Livestong man-love bracelets, no harden up bracelet, no breast cancer bracelets..... A true style master such as my good self would never deign to wear such a thing on the bike.

No, because they leave too early. I need my beauty sleep. If you saw my melon you'd agree.

I told ya, its an Adelaide cultural thing. They were either;

a/ trying to kill you delibrately coz they are cereal killaz
b/ didn't see you because they were ghey and tugging one another off in the car
c/ didn't see you because they were too hot and had heatstroke
d/ didn't see you because they were in a state of religious euphoria
e/ were stupid Port Adelaide supporters driving a stolen car

Thats only because you haven't seen 'Full Metal Jacket', 'The Good, The Bad and the Ugly', 'Deathhunt', or 'The Big Lebowski'.
