What I don't get is the amount of posters that go 'just got a new bike, still dialing in my fit lol' along with a poorly lit photo from a strange angle. Taking a decent photo of a bike is not rocket science, nor does a bike require a totally slammed setup to be hot (although it never hurts). This is the Hot r Not thread, not a please give me sympathy for my poor setup and terrible photo thread.

Woke up to an exploded email inbox. Yay

I had just ridden a 2nd best 50km, excuse me if my camera skills with an iPhone doesn't meet your expectations of bike porn.

I have a nice comfy laid back Ti bike also, wouldn't think of posting in here because it ain't hot by the Hot r Not standards. No use fighting it.

Yeah, I didnt read all of the first 1,022 pages. And yes, I agree that it was fun. Sure, no one likes to have their items criticized, but it is "art" which my bike wasn't designed for, and you know what they say about opinions, particularly in a relatively anonymous online forum ;)

Do you even know what the white male hegemony standard of beauty means, and the context in which I used it?

That's what I mean by starting fresh. I've been through every page in this thread and know the rules (which is why my bike is not shown here!) I don't think that very many people who have posted, in about the last 6 months, have read the 1st page. The not hot and butt hurt posters far out weigh the actual (IMO) hot bikes posted over the last 6 months.

Next time I will get a dedicated camera to carry along on my ride, take a bunch of cleaning rags and a feather duster to a scenic place so I can get some kudos.

mmmmK?

Thanks braddah, I will do that for my ride today. Then I will see what this ugly baby will do

The levers are a little low on the bars, and the bars are rotated up to compensate for this. Changing this will bring the drops back into a more useful position.

Yeah, I set it up before wrapping the bars as you wrote, but didn't leave it that way. Rotating the bars will be easy, and looking at it as it is now it looks like leveling the them will drop the hoods 2cm or so. We'll see how much weight that puts on my hands. Good observation though. I did put the levers on the lowest setting before wrapping it.

Why not Litespeed? They make NASA stuff. You got something going on more difficult than that?

But the point of the thread *is* bike porn, regardless of your daunting 31 mile ride.

I know. I read the title.
But it was fast. And today will even be faster. And when I do my longer rides, they will be faster and more comfortable.

Ride a bike that ugly, you better be fast.

No need to hang with the slow.

Let's all move on. Okay?

Here's my Colnago CX-1. Unfortunately just a cellphone photo, but hey, maybe it distracts from the previous heated debate.

Mixed feelings. Many things about it are nice, but the more I look and think about it, the less I like it. I rather like the wheels, but it's ironic that the only marking or spot of graphic design pertains to the brakes. I appreciate good brakes, but I hate having to use them; I want the wheels to GO, not stop. ;) What gets me most, though, is how I'm liking carbon Colnagos less and less these days; they have a sort of Jersey Shore hypertrophy look to them, especially in white.

Nothing to apologize for with your cellphone photo - it shows the bike off very well. I appreciate how we try to maintain a standard of presentation here, and it is a pleasure to see the really skillfully taken shots, but I think we'd miss out on a lot of really cool (hot) bikes if all the pictures had to be ready to print in a catalog or post on a billboard.

I like it. The seat looks slick but uncomfortable, but the curves on it look sexy without being too over-powering. It matches the gloss on the stem, spacers and levers nicely along the top. The cables look neat and I like the cranks. Down on the business end, while I'm not really a fan of carbon rims yet, I do like how they and tires blend together in matte. They would look even nicer with some lettering on them IMO, but that yellow sticker on the rim has got to be taken off. Not a fan of the water cages though. Their color is fine, but those are really the only sharp angular parts on the bike and break up all that sexiness up top and business down below.
I bet it is a dream to ride though.

Wspsux 12-05-17 07:07 AM

Seat angle again! BAH!

Mixed feelings on this, especially the stem/spacer setup. Like the color of the bike, but not the bar tape. As is, medium on the hot or not scale.

This reminds me of the Ribble email the other day with the "Black Edition" finishing touch innertubes. Oof.

:foo:

Are you talking about the decal on the rear wheel?

I like the bike, but I'd level the saddle and ditch the red tape.

nycphotography 12-05-17 10:41 AM

I posted this when I built it... here's a more recent shot in the wild.

Were you trying to see how many "rules" you could break in one photo?;)

nycphotography 12-05-17 10:49 AM

Pointing out that a bike can still be hot w/o being primped and preened first?

None of the rule breaking is about the bike itself, just in the staging for the pictures.
