Love the chainrings!

Hate the red saddle and angle of course. the positioning by rocks takes away from the rest of the photo... retake please!

Did you get a great deal on a chain that's too short?

The group and wheels are plenty identifiable, but who made the frame?! Maybe it's just that bright Arizona sunshine, but the finish looks really nice - sort of satiny.

I also like the red saddle, and not just because it's compatible with the accents elsewhere. Lots of folks will go for colored bar tape to add interest or make their bikes distinctive, but having a colored saddle make slightly more sense in my book. There's more reason for it to stand out, because it is the least like the rest of the bike to begin with. If you think about it, a bike could work without a saddle at all (see trials bikes), so even though the bars and pedals are also "contact points," the saddle is uniquely accommodating - the bike doesn't need you to sit down. Another advantage to making the saddle rather than the bar tape light or bright colored is that the saddle doesn't get grubby as readily as bar tape does.

It’s a 2015 Evo Hi-Mod. Last year I got hit and both myself and the Evo suffered some pretty good wounds. Decided to have the frame repaired and didn’t want to hide the fact that it’d been patched with a new paint job so I sanded/razored the frame and fork then put a satin clear over it.

I’ll try and get a better shot at some point, it was very bright out when I snapped that one

Who did the frame repair?

A local guy here in Phoenix, carbonframefix.com. He did a great job and only took about 6 days, very happy with his work and his price was awesome!

What kind of damage did the bike take on and about how much to repair? Also, what was the paint, if any and how did you remove? Just sanded?

My bike and I sustained a bit of damage as well. The head tube ripped open down and into the down tube. I've replaced the bike since, but the old one has a full groupset and most everything except will need a new stem, bars, and saddle. Seems a shame to go to waste if a repair and repaint may be affordable.

We're lucky to have a great carbon guy in Phoenix and the repair was only 250

The downtime was cracked on the non-drive side by the water bottle bolts

As for the paint, the bike was a black/grey model and I tried CarboLift but that didn't really work that well. I then started to hit it with 180 grit sandpaper and that worked but takes forever. The best method was using a razor blade and dragging it across the paint. That worked way faster and was easier to deal with than a bunch of paint dust from sanding. In total it took about 20 hours to do and saved 20g on the fork and 90g for the frame. It was a fun project to keep my mind busy while I healed and am super happy with the results but not sure I'd go through at again.

OK. I am new here and it seems like a risky proposition to post in this thread but I will give it a shot. Now, I'm just a guy who likes riding bikes, nothing special, so take it easy!https://i.imgur.com/rX2jty9.jpg

Your Allied is both hot and special. It appears to be a bit large for you.

GoMtnBiking 02-01-18 08:53 PM

It is bigger than what I have ever had but I had a Retul fitting prior and was advised on this size. So stem seems short and post low, but it fits.

growlerdinky 02-01-18 09:16 PM

Allied is hot. Line up the rear tire label with the valve for extra peppers.

Thanks. Did not know about the lining up the tires thing, but will definitely pay attention to it when putting on tire in the future! Don’t have my bottle cage s on yet either. Have to get those on.

I can respect the retul fitting. Seems like a reasonable saddle to stem drop for a big frame. It’s a nice bike, really nice in fact, but something is holding me back from a hot. Even though I generally really like the white tape and bar, perhaps it’s the size of bike and amount of darker paint that’s making the contrasting white seem out of place...dunno but kudos on an incredibly well thought out and set up bike!

By the way, enjoy those s works tires, they’re awesome!

I think you're either very lucky or you're being disingenuous. That's not a bike you just happen to get when you're out and about looking for something to ride. ;)
Classy hot. Not assertive, but definitely holds its own.

For me it is the levers pointed at the sky. Otherwise, a beautiful bike. :thumb:

This bike is worth reposting.

I would replace the saddle and tape with black.

What kind of bar is that?

More than internet hot points, lining them up makes it easier to find where the tire was punctured, in the event of a flat, so that you can hunt down whatever caused the flat and ensure that it doesn't pop your replacement tube.

Sweet bike - the first Allied that we've seen in the thread, that I'm aware of.

The white is one thing I really debated. I thought black would probably fit the bike better but I like white and wanted it to look a little different from other blackish bikes, so I took a chance on the white.

I also don’t know about the bars. I wasn’t sure if they would fit the look of the bike or not. Still don’t know, but I think they probably don’t match the bike well. They are 3T team stealth.

Thanks for the comments all. And yes, wish the hoods were lower.

Capo72 02-02-18 08:38 AM

That Allied is a great looking bike! If I'm nit picking, I don't care for the angle and placement where some of the cable housings enter and exit the frame. Specifically the rear derailleur. The cable comes out of the chain stay very far forward and at an odd angle. Don't get me wrong though, I would still take this bike in a heartbeat!

Hot, but I may have gone with black cable housing. :thumb:

I'm going to give up wanting that bike for lent.
