Yeah. What a ballzup. I started in B Grade.
I had done the coffee run in the rain with all me mates
the day before, and months of accumulated salt in the helmet was dripping into my eyes during the race like a nice combination of acid and razorblades. Stopped just before the outbound turn to rinse it out and abandoned. Duh: what was I thinking? It was a handicap. All I had to do was wait for A Grade to catch up and hitch a ride with them.
Have no idea what happened after that. Did some experimenting on climbing Blood then went home before they finished.

Could be the reason I missed climo's pedals?

Gerrans should be on the team due to legs, but with his neo-pro status they may not risk him, and burn-out considerations, plus the politics of getting enough Frenchies on the squad. That should not be a problem though. Astarloza of AG2r grew up in Sydney too, he is going for sure.

What's all this crap about bikes and racing? Bring back all the idle banter that had the mods watching us all the time when I first logged on.

Gates out because of team structure, Vogels because his racing calendar does not work out, probably will ride HEW, Paris-Tours, and the Vuelta in preparation for worlds, Wislon out because of nationality politics and havin enough French in Francaise de Jeux. Hayman never on the radar, should move on from Rabobank, will be difficult to move, has been there since he was 20. I like him at Mr. Bookmaker, or Davitamon-Lotto.
changes from last year, Roberts/Gerrans in (White riding) Wilson/Gates out.

Saturn or MBK Oktos then, then finished with Oktos in France I think.
This bloke had speed, won a Tour L'Aviner stage, and some other small Frenchies, beating Kirsipuu in his prime, among others. Blokes he beat like JPN (Nazon) are smoking come tour time.
My questions are, how quick was he? What were his problems? Why is he not on a ProTour team now?
Is it the Quaranta effect, Quaranta quick enough to win Giro stages in his early twenties, does not have the strength now to be a road race sprinter. Might be a good track points/scratch/madison man. Now even when he won Giro stages, they would have been Piano for most of the 150-180 k, with Cipo on the lookout for belle donnas, and marshalling those on the front to slow down. Or did Sweet struggle with the disciplines and cultural barriers so far from Aus, hypothetically speaking if the Protour was ridden in Aus would he be ripping it up?
Corey Sweet is doing well with Comnet Senges in Germnay. I think Credit Agricole gave him short shrift and a dud racing program because he was a Stewie ring-in. He is good enough to win Coup de France races. His brother was good enough to win the seaon Coup de France I think. Kirsipuu never goes over the mountains in the tour, and Sweet was hanging on to the Red Lantern there.

I'm not sure what happened to Jaw Sweet, but I reckon Ed would.
Seems like you know more about him than I do

Craziness has its virtues.
4am is normal during the week. It's the only time I can find two hours for myself. And I normally ride rain or shine, but this morning it just seemed too much to bear
I feel like crap now, so I reckon a day off is a good thing.

I might be making a crazy road trip to melbourne to pick up a 2nd hand MTB with a mate... failing that, you're welcome to head round to my house for an evening in front of the TV & some beer.. any takers?
09:30 pm DOCUMENTARY - HELL ON WHEELS
The Tour de France, the toughest bicycle race of all, celebrated its 100th birthday in 2003. Year after year this spectacular event fascinates millions of people worldwide. And the winner takes all. Alongside the astonishing beauty of the French landscape and the colourful spectacle of the race, Academy Award-winning filmmaker Pierre Danquart captured the apprehension, torture and fragility of the cyclists vying for honours and survival. Bringing us remarkably close to Erik Zabel and the T-Mobile team, this documentary provides a fascinating inner view of the Tour's organisation, history and fanatical crowds. I had my first race on the weekend. Well it was an adventure race with a mtb component anyway. After 15 years of faithful service on my old Trek 920, my rear derailleur fell apart probably 10 km into the 25 km ride (after most of the downhill sections of course). Of all the times to happen. We came in 113 out of 150. Even most of the chicks beat us. Not an auspicious start to my racing career.

No place to go but up. My placing in BMX racing seems dependent on who crashes after passing me.
