Expat, hot BMX action from the UCI WORLD CHAMPS on SBS next Sunday at 11:00am. Who will win the freestyle OTB?

Brian 08-06-05 04:15 PM

Hmm. No SBS for me. Freestyle? What's that?

classic1, this is for you, not sure if it'll be much help, it doesn't look lke a classic road frame any more...

Climbo, That's a well loved bike! How loooong is that wheelbase. :) I will check it out against the old pommy magazine ads I have. I can't tell from the photo if the derailleur cable guides run under the BB shell or have those old style brazed on guides above the shell. And was there brazed on brake cable guides on the top tube at some stage?

Saw the Tour of Gippsland today in Traralgon. 1.5km circuit with a steep 400m hill every lap. Pissed rain, cold, guys getting shelled on lap 1, etc. Robert McLoughlin destroyed them again. The other riders, including the U23 Australian team riders, can't blow wind up his arse. They might have potential, but he was the only bloke there who would step into a Euro team and go well straight off the bat.

climbo 08-07-05 03:54 AM

oh yeah, it's seen some action. Nice long wheelbase lets me get cyclo-cross tyres in there. :) Cable guides are on top of the BB shell like you say, and no braze-ons at the front, it only has those little ridges on the TT which I assume a bolt on cable guide must push up against.

How about Alby, not Mangels, the other one, he got a great stage win today.

Sunny and warm up here, went to walk along the beach in shorts with the kid. :D

Oi! Went for a ride on the tandem into town - put a deposit on a new bike for the missus, then took the dog to the beach. Even mowed the lawn yesterday and washed the car today. I don't hate winter so much.

Your not wrong about Rob Mcloughlin, he's an animal. He actually took ten years off cycling, he would have carved in Europe if he wasn't quite so old. He is a Canberra local and I've seen him race some crits and hes just untouchable in the sprints.

climbo 08-07-05 04:38 PM

well he won another stage so yeah, an animal all right !!

you get some more photos on Saturday jock? Didn't see you at the finish.

Yup, just a couple of shots out on Blood. My watch was incorrect time so got out there too early. I had dragged the family along, so didn't have much time. Chucked half of the shots in the bin straight away: just plain awful. Go to the club website and hit GALLERY. The sepia stuff is at the end, some nice expressive shots this week but not nearly enough contrast.

Took the kids to the Jr Dev yesterday. Son did his usual trick of just wanting to watch then not wanting to leave because he's having too much fun on the slalom course after everyone else is finished. Duh! And #1 daughter creamed 'em in the handicap. Won by 30 seconds! I think she must have foxed it in the trials :D

climbo 08-07-05 07:01 PM

very good work, first time out there for them was it?

at least you got some pics, nobody else ever gets any although I do see the odd person with a camera other than you, I just don't know what they do with the shots they take.

Beautiful day for a ride, I was pissed off with Chappy after the C race though. He suckered me the whole way from Blood to the finish and then out-sprinted me. :( I tried to drop him but couldn't, he's yelling that he's got nothng to give and can't come around me for a turn, yeah right !!

The lad had been out with me the week before, but again just sat on the sideline and watched.

There's a shot of Chappy lurking in the pack, reminds me so much of Robbie.

[edit] Wonder if Ed can recognise him. Australian Champion (track) a while ago

yeah, he can lurk for sure But then again, only him and that tall bloke Neil came over the top of Blood with me. I didn't expect to see Chappy there, he's a trackie/sprinter, I didn't think he'd climb that well. Neil was left for dead by the next little rise and to his credit Chappy outclimbed a lot of guys and then beat me to the line. Wouldn't be surprised to find us both in B grade in 2 weeks. :)

jock 08-07-05 07:39 PM

Chappie is a B-Grader, but he only trains for the summer crit/track season. His little legs have plenty of memory in them, so you'll never drop him if he's racing down in C-Grade. :)

BTW, what's your story? Weren't you promoted to B Grade with me? What are you doing riding in Kindy-Club again?

climbo 08-07-05 07:44 PM

saw that photo, i like this one too, excellent facial expressions.

I was promoted to B for CD racing, I guess Ray hasn't bothered to put me up since I never show up to race that much for club racing lately.

I nearly tossed that pic! But it's exactly the kind of facial expressions I had been chasing. Tells no lies :D

Maaate, who arfe you kiddin? If your good enough to be up there with the sprint in a B Grade Divisional race then your good enough for B Grade at Club level!!! Well done on you second place, now get yoself back up there!

jock 08-08-05 05:46 AM

Oh joy, the training program has me racing my first race back at the club champ's for a good time. You'd better be there climbo so I can get a tow every now and then. Or is that all the way :D

climbo 08-08-05 04:16 PM

I plan to be there. :)

jock 08-08-05 04:40 PM

Actually it shouldn't be too bad. The pace in age champs is much more predictable and smooth. It will only be Blood and Rod B's incessant surging that'll put a sting in the legs.

MMAS3 then? MMAS2 for me unless they combine them.

It's nice to see KB doing something constructive. Pity he's not still making bikes, but at least now he gets a chance to actually go ride I guess.

Maybe I should look up Peacock and Ryan and see if they want some cheap customs? :)
