Stop with the sad eyes, bailey. You want to ride with me? You get on the tandem.

Just got back from my morning ride. Ejected a damn bottle right into the f'ing potomac river where I couldn't get it back. What are the odds of that?

I don't think Bailey could keep up with Sam on the MTB rides I do with him. I ride. Sam runs.
Sam is very fast.

For such a light bike frame, Cavendish's Addict handled that harrowing crash rather well the other day. In fact, none of the carbon bikes involved in that crash shattered into pieces. Some may have become damaged enough to require a replacement, but none snapped in two. The designers and manufacturers are obviously getting better at producing these carbon wonderbikes.
They do need to get a handle on the wheel situation though. That's embarrassing watching those things crumble under stress.
Have I wasted this observation in here?

I watched that crash over and over. That photo of Cav's wheel was incredible. But that was a ton of stress. I think my Assaults would have been destroyed.
Very interesting to hear all the bikes survived. I agree that's a testament to modern carbon manufacturing.

Anybody know about riding near grandfather mountain and the blue ridge parkway? I'll probably be over there tomorrow morning.

Just get one of these. In the unlikely event that my 20 year old case gets trashed, that's what I will replace it with. However my extensive travels with my old Athlon Products case assures me that it's indestructible. Better than a hard case: easier to squeeze into small foreign rental cars or taxis and easier to strap to the roof (I bring compression straps) if you are forced to do that. Protects the bike just fine. Trust me on this, I've traveled all over the friggin place with a case like that.

Oh, that's useful.
I assume you're saying you have no answer. I'll ask it another way - are you accepting the risk that your carbon bike, in a soft case, might end up getting destroyed at the bottom of that European luggage stack? More importantly, has a Pcad carbon bike ever successfully made this trip?

This sbxx has tried the patience of Pcad, even with a full dose of endorphins. That's amazing.

Personally, I think there is a realistic possibility your Addict gets crushed. In my experience, international travelers carry very large, very heavy pieces of luggage. Many of them pay the excess baggage costs because they have no choice. I wanted to believe that you had some practical solution to this problem using a soft case. If you don't, that's OK. I don't either.

Edit: JUST got e-mail from teacher with grade. I got a B. How in the hell did I do that?

If you message BF member BikeWNC you might get some good information on rides in western NC.

Whatever. I asked a question that you seemed qualified to answer based on your advanced age and proclaimed wisdom. I was hoping to actually learn something on BF that might remotely assist my cycling addiction.

... Composi-Foam multi-density panels provide progressive shock absorption, and impact-resistant side panels and 1000 denier Cordura offer even more peace of mind. The steel frame adjusts to support the bike at the fork and BB shell, and fits road, mountain or touring bikes up to 63cm, with room for two extra wheels. Rigid polyethylene floor with 2" swivel casters for easy ground transport. Standard size. 46" x 30" x 10" weighs 29 lbs. (Shipping 42.00 Continental U.S.)
I have a hardcase and agree traveling with it sucks. It only took one trip to convince me to rent instead.

I have this case, and it works well. I did add some foam rubber between the wheel pockets and the frame, as well as adding pipe wrap around the frame.
It seems the pro's who ship their bikes prefer soft cases as well.

From the linky the "soft" case sounds pretty beefy....

What worried me about CC's description was the part that said "If you and your bike fly like the professional teams..." My bike is unlikely to fly like any professional team.

So why do hardcases suck so much? Is it just the shear bulk?
