Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: Velo Volmobile

Five years old is a bit young to be riding on the streets, though. Or even going to school, for that matter.

83 miles, 7500 vertical feet. When I got back to Mt. Doom by 1PM it was 95 degrees. That last 20 miles and those last few climbs really sucked today.

They have a high ozone air pollution alert in the NY Metro area today from 10AM to 10PM. I had no problems with breathing until about 10:30AM, then I could feel the crappy air hurting my lungs on the climbs for the last two hours of the ride.

The hour is coming when i will know for sure just how fredly i am. i have never ridden with anyone remotely resembling a fred. In fact, i don't really ride with anyone except for the 2 road nazis and Tri geek all of whom are way too fit and into the whole training for competitions nonsense. What's all that shenanigans? Well this coming weekend i'm signed up for my first ever mass event a 106 mile sportive that should draw a myriad of freds through serious types. I will finally know where i stand in the pecking order.

Any bets on whether i'm right down the bottom? Hint...the road nazis assure me i am way faster than some they have seen at other sportives.

Pro tip: When you forget your good razor at home, do not go to the drug store and buy the 6 pack for $2. Ow. Sweat burns.

By the way I am using that as my excuse for only riding 5m today.

Hey Gomer our central A/C is actually keeping up with the 95º temps. But we have to crank it down between 7 and 9AM and leave it cranked all day. But it does work. Slightly undersized for the house, but we knew that. Long, complicated story, well beyond your limited Gomer comprehension skills. Intricate and highly technical HVAC issues.

Casa CAD sits atop the sunniest ridge in Orange County. Great in the winter, warm in the summer.

Mix in a shade tree or two--it helps.

I like it warm inside.

In the [finished] attic where I stay when in jersey, the AC doesn't exactly "work", and according to the thermometer, it is 86 in here.

How unfortunate for you. In my kitchen, it is 73ºF and comfortable. Outside my kitchen, it is currently 98ºF. So the A/C is working. But it runs all day on days like this, no spare capacity. If you fail to crank it up by 10AM on a day like today, it won't keep up. But the worst I've seen here is high 70's inside on a 90º+ day where we didn't start it until noon or 1PM.

It's a new unit, much more efficient than the one it replaced. And on more moderate days (80's, humid) it has less trouble keeping up with it. We only really get 5-10 days this hot each season.

Why anyone would actually care what label any idiot, particularly one stupid enough to post on BF, pins on them, is baffling to me.

This is particularly true of the 33 Brain Trust by the way.

Do the boys in the 33 know more about cycling, training, and gear than the 41 morons?

Clearly.

Does this excuse their preposterous superiority complex?

Hardly.

They are a bunch of silly, silly Road Nazis.
