Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How far does it go? I'd probably bring an extra tire. For tools, are you bringing more than a multi tool?

It was aimed at Velo Vol, looks like I'm not only slow on the bike but at posting to.

I'm going on vacation tomorrow, but no bike. Running 40 miles a week isn't quite as fun.

Two extra tires, spare chain, some spokes, spoke wrench, allen keys, floor pump, tubes, patch kit, spare set of cleats, that's about it. And hope for the best. Hey, worked the last two times

This build is exciting me. I can't wait to post a photo of the frame + all the components. I just realized that I won't have the frame till september though..

Not sure whether or not you can read this without being signed in.

If you can, what's the difference between global finish time and elapsed time?

I just got back from a lovely vacation ... fractured my frigging right wrist. Can't ride, but I can skate and run, so I guess it's okay.

That's at age 50+ you stupid Freds. I hope you all realize that most of you are even slower than me.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

Agreed, it's just extra info for a TT. For running events, you have chip time because there can be 20,000 people doing the race and you wont cross the start for a few minutes. But the clock time is generally what counts for podiums and places.

If I felt shame, I wouldn't be posting in this stupid thread.

I think sailing will remain the primary sport for at least the rest of this season.

I don't even feel like riding tomorrow. That's a bad sign, it's my day off. Urf.

I missed out on the 21.3 mph average speed discussion.

Tonight's ride data:

Time: 01:27:43
Moving Time: 01:27:34
Elapsed Time: 01:28:06
Avg Speed: 21.2 mph
Avg Moving Speed: 21.3 mph
Max Speed: 42.8 mph

I would like to change my story.

I did not get dropped. I simply peeled off and cruised in so that I could come in with an average speed of 21.3 and post this.

I am able to not touch my brakes through a corner now. Took half the race for me to get ok with it.

Found out what it is like to over cook a corner too. Nothing but ego loss there..
Real crit? Link to race.
