Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I went out on Hains point. It was "closed" but everyone just rode around on the grass to get around the gates. Lots of debris and mud on the road in spots, but all the water had disappeared.

I was hoping to go along old town, on the mount vernon trail, but that's way too messy.

This El Nino stuff really does blow. Today is the first time we even got to 50 since Friday, and it's not supposed to be 60 here until Thursday.

Read it and weep Gomer. Chester weather for the next week or so:

This is Yahoo Weather. In keeping with its incredibly low standards, please note the weather forecast for 'tonight' is 'sunny'.

The weather has a bit of an influence on our "addiction".

You post one word things like "fixed" to keep this thread alive and you complain about people posting the weather?

Forecast highs today:

Knoxville 56F
Sault Sainte Marie 60F

Sault Sainte Marie is 700 miles straight north of here.

I don't get it.

It's 57º here now. I just rode past the local ski hill. They have closed, but it still looked skiable.

So who else is filling out brackets today?

I'm eagerly awaiting Pcad to unveil his upset specials.

I'm hoping the Black Plague eliminates 95% of the teams and their fans next week.

Better dead than Red or Fred.

By the way, speaking of Fred, I got off my bike today 1100 meters into the approx. 1300 meter Cain Road climb because I had blown every friggin gasket and pulled into a driveway to rest before resuming the climb. And I wasn't far from the top, but I was done. In other words I bailed on the climb. I can't ever remember having to do that before. I had a 39 x 25, the gear was too stiff for the prolonged 20%+ grade. The last time I climbed that particular hill with that gearing I was 10 lbs lighter. That's a March wake up call right there.

Happily the rest of the hill intervals went more smoothly. Those didn't have 20% grades. I'm too fat for this sport.
