Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

-1.

Now we're back to zero point zero, the correct concern level regarding college sports.

One more inch of bar to seat drop and you can post in the 33.

I can "top" that. Flat 36km (no wind) - 1 hour 21m - I lost count of how many times I just stopped pedalling.

Over it today.

holy crap, words of wisdom from our fooster in chief.

hey pcad, what do you say about getting back from cold/flu and racing. how long do you wait before you start training/racing? of course, i know to take this with a grain of salt as he is still racing 4's after 20 years

Actually I've been racing with the 35+ boys for nearly 20 years. I gave up on the 4's it was too dangerous. I'll let you know about getting back to hard riding as soon as I figure out how to do it with this mouth pain. This sucks.

In an effort to up the thread post count and find answers to stupid questions...

Dear Addicted Dysfunctional Family, I have a carbon steerer and I'm interested in removing a spacer from under my stem - it is safe to move the stem down and place the spacer above the stem for a little test ride? Do I need to exercise particular caution?

Garcias.

Yes. If you know how to tighten the steerer/ headset correctly.

I always have a 5mm space above my stem.

For tightening read this https://www.parktool.com/repair/readhowto.asp?id=65 scroll down to Headset Adjustment - Threadless Type

^^^ Ah, okay - thanks. I guess that my main concern was something that I had seen mentioned elsewhere on BF (can't find it now) stating that, on a carbon steerer, it was dangerous to tighten the stem too far below the internal adjustment cap/bolt/nut... like there was a greater risk of collapsing the steerer tube without the additional support that it provided. (The spacers are 2cm, so the stem would be well below the top cap).

Really eh? I just moved about 2cm worth of spacers above the stem this weekend. Guess I better put them back until I can get it done professionally.

Obviously, the bike is junk. If the shop can't fix the problem and you're sick of hearing the noise, just send the bike to me. Upon receipt, I'll send you a 2005 Fuji Team Pro that makes no noises.

My mouth still hurts, but less. That being said, I'm going to take Sam for a walk. That always makes me feel better.

Trust isn't the issue -- just trying to minimize time without a racing bike.

The big thing with anything carbon is you want to make sure you don't over tighten because it won't be as forgiving as alloy.

Sam and I both enjoyed the walk around the mighty Pcad Estate. Our Lands so to speak.

He is, without doubt or question, the very best dog on God's Earth.

How dare you let this leave page 1?

I just did 25 miles of sprints, caught up with this one group 3 times. Why did I have to catch up 3 times? I got dropped 3 times as well.
