The Cult of CAAD...

I gave up trying to get the BB30 bottom bracket to stop creaking on my 2012 CAAD 10 5. Every time I took it back to the shop, the creaking would return within 50-100 miles. After 4 tries, I went to a different Cannondale dealer. They turned me on to a C Bear ceramic bearing shim that converts the BB30 to Shimano, which also required upgrading to a Shimano 105 crank/gear ring. Its been about 400 miles and no creaking. If you have a creaky BB30 that won't stop creaking, I recommend this solution.

Regarding the BB30 bottom bracket, when i went to the specialized store, i noticed that they also use the BB30. i asked them if they have any customers coming in with creaking etc. they obviously aren't going to tell me major cases but they said that the BB30 does need to be maintained and should be brought in for a re-grease or service every 6 months. Since the cannondale dealer told me the same thing, it swayed me more towards the CAAD10, since both may have the same issues. If if keeps happening, i will definitely consider a different bottom bracket.
I actually emailed Chris King and asked if i can use their PF30 BB30 bottom bracket (i'm not a techie) and they said 'no' - they will not work together. The shimano option mentioned on this thread could be would looking into.

Hi
Here is my humble rig:

Bought it equipped with 105 etc. and stripped it.I also had a Canyon AL which was a nice frame but the CAAD is just in a League of it´s own when it comes to alu frames. It beats some of the carbon frames i´ve had/ridden too for sure.

Not the best photos, but caad8 cyclocross. Sram rival group (force crank), aksium wheels, surly steel fork, selle italia seat, not sure on the post or stem at the moment, this was just a cheap build to use up some parts. The bar tape is an odd greyish microtex and the cables are gold not yellow....also ignore the pedals, I put some clipless on when i got home

Here is a pic of my 2012 taken last week, Chicago skyline in the background. I'm a big fan of the SRAM Rival component group. I like everything about this bike. I'm 5' 11.5" tall and ride a 56cm.

Some nice bikes in this thread ..... looking to join yall in a few
I was @my area VA. dealer today softening them up for a sale this weekend .... I have a question so I'm better prepped to target a final selling price.
Here are my two choices and the dealer's asking price ... Are these prices about right or too high?
(2014) CAAD10 5 105 $1680 without tax
(2013) CAAD10 3 Ultegra Raw $2100 without tax
Thanks for your help ....

I got a CAAD10 3 (2012) in December of 2012 (so it was old stock) for $1800 without tax. I can't say I've scored the best deal on a CAAD10 3 either. If you were debating between 2013 Ultegra and 2014, it wouldn't be a question - go 2014, but that's a tough debate.
What are your goals on the bike? Just ride for fun, leisure? Racing? Do you know if you like sprinting or climbing more? - perhaps if you wanted a good climber, go 105 and save your cash for a new set of wheels.
Keep in mind, everything gets upgraded when you go up a level - not just the groupo. That being said, I haven't taken a look at the 2014 CAAD10 5 in depth yet...
Hope I helped... It's been a long day of homework and school and I'm dreaming of bikes.

I just got my 2013 CAAD10 5 105 for $1300 without tax. I had also an offer for 2013 CAAD10 3 $1800 ( from $2300 ) without tax but I went with 5 just because I'm a beginner and I think that fits my level for now.
I wanted to confirm what THSdrummer said about the prices and I'm talking about Canada where we usually pay a little bit more.

They both seem a tad high, but I believe prices on the coast tend to be higher than the midwest anyway.

I do most of my hard sprinting\riding at night around 1AM, and I had a old FUJI racer that was used for street and the above is my in-the-house trainer. I just sold my racer so that I could upgrade to an CAAD10 aluminum bike -- Didn't really have to sell it, but having two bikes in an apt is already too much
three would be pushing it.

Give Just the Right Gear in Salem, VA a call. When I was there last month they were able to get '13 CAAD10 2 Force Racing for $1750. It may be worth the drive for ya

I think there is actually a layer of paint on it, rather than just being raw metal, but yeah, I like the look a lot. Like I say, the plan is to switch to Campy down the road, so picking a paintjob that I liked was more of a factor in selection than componentry, and I happened to prefer this 5 version over the 4s and 3s that were out there.

Nice ride! Looks kinda like the view from the Northwestern lakefill (and I notice the purple rock in the background, I think)...

ok, so here's my 2009 CAAD 9. The frame is really the only original equipment. Everything else updated with new Scram Red, WiiFli rear D, quarq, and 3T doric carbon parts, Easton carbon fork, and Specialized Romin saddle with carbon rails, Look Carbon Blade pedals, Mavic Cosmic Carbon wheels with decals removed, and Garmin 810.
questions? What do you think??

very nice, was it expensive to upgrade the bike to 10 speed? I know most would say get a new bike instead of spending the money on a new group for an older bike but I would love to put a 5700 or Rival group on my CAAD7.
