Hey guys, just a heads up. Cult guidelines changed for 2014. You can't take pictures with your microwave anymore.

Nagrom_ 01-22-14 02:19 PM

Bit of an update for me and my caad. Got new lights.

But I'm out of commision for 8-12 weeks. Took a hell of a spill saturday night. Concussion, fractured hip, chipped ankle, elbow is broken in three places, and a fair share of road rash.

But more importantly, the bike is fine. No frame dents, nothing broken. All cosmetic, the paint was hardly even touched, just some scratches on the seatstay. Wheels are true as the day I built them.

ovoleg 01-22-14 02:22 PM

lol you bought 2 of those lights? Man I have one and it sucks! Got it on Amazon, battery life is 3 hrs on the low setting, at best.

Nagrom_ 01-22-14 02:29 PM

Hard to complain at 15 dollars... but some people find a way I guess...

Nagrom_ 01-22-14 02:31 PM

We'll agree to disagree.

Or at least I will.

Anybody have suggestions for upgraded shifter cables? I have whatever came with my CAAD10 and I find they get a bit loose over time and need adjustments from time to time. Perhaps that's they way they just are?

Get a set of Yokozuna Reaction. Get the complete set, housing too.

Thank me later. Best fifty bucks you can spend on your bike.

I prefer Jagwire myself http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jagwire-Road...item20ddc0482a

Do different brands of cables make that much of a difference?

You'd be surprised.

But I think it's mostly the housing in this case, haha.

Glad things weren't any worse for you Nagrom, take things carefully and let everything get healed up completely before you stretch the workouts out again. Just use the time to plan the next changes for your CAAD when the money allows it.

Ouch!
Hope you heal up quickly.
On the good side, you get to enjoy the Tour of Down Under. :)

Yokozuna or jagwire help in weight also? I have ultegra cable and housing and have always wanted been interested in cable housing. Even after people make suggestions, I still have no idea what is what or why to get this over that.

Nagrom_ 01-25-14 04:06 PM

Yoko is admittedly a bit heavier, but only by about 20g difference between jagwire on my 58 caad.

The performance trumps the weight by far.

Next I'm trying iLinks.

Are you unsatisfied with the performance at all with the jagwire?

THSdrummer 01-25-14 11:02 PM

Considering entering some Merckx time trials this summer on my CAAD10 to see how my legs and mind stack up to other cyclists. I still run for a university, so I can't go all in on training or purchases, so that's why I'm sticking with my CAAD10 for TTs and not doing crits.

Any workout tips? Ideas? Favorite TT or strength workouts people have?

I understand riding more makes for stronger legs, but I'm limited to 1-2 days a week. If I can get my grubby mitts on a set of rollers, I could start spinning a half hour each day to get the legs in good technique. I might be able to source a set of rollers for a few weeks.

Pinkbullet3 01-26-14 03:56 PM

How much are you willing to spend on rollers?

thewilson 01-26-14 04:18 PM

Right now there is a used pair of rollers on Nashbar for pretty cheap. I bought my rollers used from Nashbar and I'm totally happy.

I could spend probably a max of 30 minutes a day on the rollers. 5-6 days a week and the rest I could actually do real rides outside. Any tips for the rollers? In the past I've just played around with spinning at a quick cadence for a minute or two and then spinning a regular cadence and repeat. I also include some single-leg drills occasionally.

Oh, sorry, if we're talking about cash for rollers, I'd say I top out around $200. Especially if I want to get it before the summer. In the summer I can spend 3-4 days out on the roads riding, so the rollers will be of less importance, but still influential.

I haven't used parabolic rollers yet. I like the idea of standard aluminum rollers. Are those plastic rollers? How do tires handle them? Are they louder than aluminum rollers? I was considering going with the Nashbar or Performance Bike set.

thewilson 01-26-14 04:56 PM

I can't speak for that particular set of rollers but I do have the aluminum Nashbar set, relatively quiet. They do turn my tires silver, but I haven't noticed any real tire wear.

Sorry to hear this. I take it you are doing surgery/internal fixation? I just went through this on my right radius and ulna, after 11 weeks I am riding again though very timid. I also fractured my hip, sprained both ankles, and road rashed my right leg, both hips, both shoulders.

P.S., I ordered a CAAD10 today, will post pics on Thursday if I have everything I need to put it together.
