stevepwolf 05-28-14 02:20 PM

Thanks, it's a really fun ride.

Is your backpack a camelback? Or do you only drink when stopped?

I might be purchasing a CX frameset, which means I'll need a new groupset. I'm thinking of upgrading my road groupset and putting my 6700 on the CX bike. Just not sure I want to run 6700 through the muck since I plan on beating it up. 6800 sounds great though. And it is not that terrible of a price.... Any experience with 6700? I was curious if you could compare 6700 to 6800.

I've now got 6700 on one CAAD10 and 6800 on the other. Despite many saying that 6700 is garbage - poor shifting, etc, I've never had any issues with my set-up and rate the 6700 no problems. Having said that, I reckon my 7800 (which the 6800 replaced) was marginally smoother than 6700 - shifting was a real breeze. 6800 is another step higher again in smoothness and the braking is fantastic.

6800 is certainly an improvement, so upgrading your road bike to that group and putting 6700 on your CX would give you a big cheesy grin, I'd reckon.

Good luck wth your choice.

Team Sarcasm - na, already got a 'number' of bikes, so will let this stuff go - already have a mate eyeing it off for his work/commute bike and it wil do the job very nicely.

cheers

Ah. Ok. Each to their own. Enjoy the bike, you got an absolute steal there.

I'm horrible at values on bikes since I'm new....

Would you take a 2010Cannondale 6 with 105's at $650. Or wait on a July / August sale on a CAAD10 105 currently selling at $1550?

If the CAAD10 what deals have you guys seen that's a fair price for it on sale?

I would buy a caad10 at 650 assuming it was a whole bike.

I paid $450 for a 2010 CAAD9 frameset (with upgraded fork and a few extras) so I would pay $650 for a Six. As long as it's in good shape . No hairline cracks in carbon or other funny business

It's not a CAAD10 for $650 it's a "cannondale six"

Kameleon 05-29-14 08:59 PM

How can a newbie check for carbon fiber for integrity?

New developments
1) 2009-2010 Caad 9 on tiagra, condition looks good. $900
2) Cannondale six $650
3) Wait for a sale on the CAAD10 in a month... Currently selling at $1550

What would you do as a beginner? Knowing what you know now?.... Besides "test ride all of them"

In my books if the 2010 is in great shape, then $650 is an excellent price. Look at the post above. $280 for a 1993 Cannondale 3.0. I'm not knocking it, it's a great bike for the vintage and looks to be in great condition as well, but to pay $650 for a CAAD10? What's not to love about that deal?

Edit: Same mistake thinking it was a Caad10 ... Cannondale 6? What is that?

Guys, it NOT a CAAD10 for $650.
Its a "2010 cannondale six". If it was a caad10 for $650 I'd be posting pictures of my new ride by now... LOL

As a newbie I think I value a warranty and support of a LBS for sure. But damn $1550 for new bike plus $300-500 for accessories and proper fitting is overwhelming.

A craigslist deal might be better but I don't know values. Like that 2009 CAAD9 tiagra at $900 seems better priced than a new 2014 caad10 105 at $1550.. But then a 2013 caad8 tiagra is $999 at a LBS. So then the CAAD9 seems over priced again compared to the newer CAAD8.

Plus I'm not pro enough to know what to look for. Like someone mentioned about carbon fiber fractures. Or chain/component wear.

I just am itching to find a good deal and I don't know what kind of pricing. The 2014 caad10 105 will come down to in July /August.. Anyone know?

Oh and I've test ride a few already at the LBS, loved the CAAD's for sure. I assume the CAAD9 would feel the same way as the CAAD8 right?

So what's the best deal of those? What is the lowest price you think I can offer for the CAAD9 to be a substantial deal?

CAAD8 is a different bike then the CAAD9 and CAAD10. The 8 has a less aggressive geometry and lower end components. The 10 is the replacement for the 9 but they are very similar and they are race bikes with aggressive geometry. The lowest I've seen CAAD10 at lbs was $1275 for previous year model. And where I live sales tax is 9.75% so that's another $125. Nice thing about used is its cheaper and no tax. I've seen CAAD10 with Ultegra sell for around $1200 on eBay recently.

So the CAAD9 you are looking at is not overpriced compared to the new CAAD8, it's a different and better bike. I saw one on Craigslist recently for $750. Offer the guy $700 and maybe he'll meet you in the middle

Thank you. I personally didn't feel much difference between the CAAD 8 and 10. The 10 felt lighter and more nimble but not "uncomfortably" aggressive. Your right I want the 10 to future proof my purchase and not do upgrades for a while. But the 8 is considered because of the lower price point.

I'll offer the $700 he's far off for a quick test ride...

I had considered a Domane 2.3/4.3 but my gut feeling draws me back to a CAAD8/9/10.

Also if you know of a great deal or LBS. Let me know please. Looks like I live not to far from you! West Los Angeles Area.

FWIW, I bought a discounted 2013 CAAD10 105 last fall and it's just awesome. I rode a SuperSix and a CAAD8 when shopping, and it was an easy decision for me. I put a new saddle (Specialized Romin Evo Expert) and tires (Conti GP4000S, 25mm) on it, and it's way more comfortable now, and, as a result, way faster. I'd hold out for the 10 if you can.

But the CAAD9 is essentially the same bike. Tiagra vs 105 is a slight difference but doubtful a newb would notice the difference.

stitchy 05-30-14 10:16 AM

If it helps, I bought my 2013 CAAD 10 105 last July (2013) for $1300 no tax (waited for the no tax sale weekend).

Mind letting me know where was this?

What If I can get the 2010 CAAD 9 tiagra at $700?
Trying to find a point where this is a non brainer...
The bike's a 60cm, I had been testing 58's . I tested a caad10 in the same size 60 and man I love that bike!.. Even better in a 60cm.

Also would it cost a lot to put 105`S on it? Will it feel like the CAAD10. Or will the CAAD10 Still feel better??

Team Sarcasm 05-31-14 12:47 AM

to put 105 on the caad9?

The caad9 is a great frameset that (if I have heard correct) is stiffer than the 10, but a little bit heavier as well. tiagra v. 105...I have had both and once they are broken in....they both shift pretty much the same lol. I wouldnt worry about a bike that has tiagra.

My only criteria for my next bike, which will be a commuting bike, is:

Integrated shifters.

If I had tiagra on my caad10 I would not complain.

I just measured my self again at the competitive cyclists website. And i said I'm a "58" (based of the top tube length) so why did the 60cm feel better?.. I think I'm wanting a caad so bad that knowing the used caad9 is a size 60cm is mentally F-ing with me.

Please help me with figuring out my size. LBS are all over the place with it and swears "whatever" bike I get on is the "pefect" Size.. Wether it's a 58,60,61! It is irritating and making me feel like they just want to sell whatever is in Stock at the moment.

Here is what that website gave me
