I hadn't even looked through that entire article. That townie Synapse looks incredible! I might have just found my next bike. It screams class and commuter style, but I still feel like I could rock it for miles of rough roads.

On second thought, I really don't need a bike like that in my stable, but it sure does look purdy.

Team Sarcasm 07-01-14 09:43 AM

I could ride my old synapse for dayzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, it's an awesome bike for sure.

How often should a BB30 get overhauled/greased/cleaned up? I've had my CAAD10 about 9 months now, put 2400 miles on it, and heard a bit of clicking yesterday from the BB, particularly when under load (big ring or out of saddle climbing, grinding into the wind).

Jazzy Hands 07-01-14 10:05 AM

There is no reason to mess with your BB unless there is a problem. Having the shop take it out/reservice it runs the risk of improper reinstallation, which would defeat the purpose - BB30 is notoriously finicky. I have gone over two years/10k miles without touching the bb.

First, make sure the noise is coming from the BB. If your crank isn't spinning freely, definitely get it checked out.

Leinster 07-01-14 10:10 AM

Cheers. It's the first noise I've heard out of it, and a friend on a (much older) Trek had to completely replace his bearings not too long ago, so I got a bit worried when it started up yesterday. I'll monitor over the next while.

Stole these off of RBR (same screen name for me)

The Evo....sweet heyzeus....I might have to get one of these.....

seymour1910 07-01-14 10:48 AM

Thanks for the pics, needs more CAAD though. I can't wait to see the entire CAAD10 lineup.

cderalow 07-01-14 11:54 AM

god.... makes me seriously want that carbon synapse....

next year... must be mine

Team Sarcasm 07-01-14 12:11 PM

I've decided. In order to get a new bike I am going to have to ride my bike so hard a weld prematurely breaks. #getsome :D jkjk lol.

Team Sarcasm 07-01-14 12:12 PM

I am really liking that green and black synapse though, and if there is a caad10 like the green evo paint scheme I am hoping ship to the 2015 caad10.

No intercourses given about the brake preference with a cexy paint job like that.

I've been following this thread for some time now and checking my local Craigslist regularly. We'll the stars aligned for me last weekend and my wife gave my the go ahead to buy. So far I'm loving it! It's definitely as smooth of a ride as everyone claims. Now time to get my engine in shape.

Regards,

SoulPro

Why powder coated and not just painted w/clear coat?

Team Sarcasm 07-02-14 01:11 AM

If it didnt void the warranty my junk would be painted already :p

That's a good point but my reason for going powder coat is that it is cheap and I'll probably just go the boring all black route. I'm talking about doing this to my 2005 CAAD7. If I was going the paint/clear coat route I would want custom and not something you see every day.

I did get some quotes from local custom painters and whoa.....for what it would cost to get a custom job with a couple clear coats I could get a brand new CAAD10-3. I got quotes as high as 2 grand. Of course they said they could do something basic for a lot cheaper but why do that?

The quote I got for going with either a matte or glossy black powder coat was $150 and that included the sand blasting, he said if I wanted a really glossy finish he could add a coat of clear over the powder coating and everything would come out to $200.

I snagged this out of the "Show us your Cannondale" thread. This CAAD8 was powder coated matte black. To me it looks so much more modern than the before pic. Again, not my bike, just an example.

Still needs a saddle, bottle cages are in the mail, needs wider bars, cut the steerer, but this thing is fun. Heavy as ****, but fun.

Careful with the sandblasting. Those tubes are very thin. I'm not sure how they would react to the heat treating of the finish either.

Thanks for the heads up man, and I will be honest in saying I am not educatd on the subject. I have seen some really nice PC jobs done on bikes but I would hate for mine to be the mishap. You have me nervous now, I was really considering pulling the trigger on a PC job in the next week or two.
