Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: Trek Madone 2.1

Racing position instead of relaxed more upright position , Less aggressive. I'm a bit bigger than I used to and can't bend down on bars so something like a Secteur or Synapse us way more comfortable for me.

I think 90% of comments on ride are in the head and not real.

Steeper head angles equal faster steering. Shorter head tubes means the handlebars are lower. Shorter chainstay lengths and fork rake which reduces the overall wheelbase measurement and makes the bike react to input quicker.

i've cleaned up as much as i can, took me about 4 hours to really get the chain reasonably gunk free with toothbrush and degreaser. anyway, cleaned up cassette/chain last night as well as i could (don't have the chain break/freewheel removal tool or would have just soaked it in diesel), used some car wax on the frame and it's looking pretty awesome! will have to take some 'after' pics of it later to put up.

any ideas on any future modifications/improvements to keep in mind? i'm guessing at some point try replace the derailleur back to dura-ace when/if can get one at a really good price but still happy with the 105 for now. also not too happy with the left shifter but it works.

no display of what gear it's in like my mountain bike, i find myself looking down a bit which is probably dangerous is this normal on road bikes? i'm sure i'll get used to it anyway.

below's the specs i've been provided from previous owner, though my first road bike so can't really tell what condition it's all in. all i can say is it feels so nice to ride very stable at high speeds (well, for me high speed is 50-60kph at the moment) and climbs so effortlessly. also feels very light but then again, my reference point is my mountain bike. don't have a scale for this, caad cult members how heavy do you reckon this would be?

2001 Cannondale 3000si

Dura ace 9 speed shifters
Dura ace brakes
Dura ace cranks 53/39
Dura ace cassette 12-27
Dura ace front derailleur
105 rear derailleur

Slice Carbon fork
Easton bars

Dura ace rear hub laced to a Mavic open pro rim
Ultegra Front wheel with Mavic CXP33 rim

Tyres Continental GP4000 and Maxis Refuse
Ultegra PD-6610 pedals

CAAD5 Frame

been two months now with this bike, have done 700km (~450miles) in it now, slowly increasing milage by the week as i get slowly fitter! totally loving it.. heres some pics with blue bartape (i know, a fashion crime haha). got some white bartape to try out after this too once this is worn out. since i got the bike, i have taken most of it apart and put it through a full cleanup, relubed and put it all back together. given the frame a good wax too. fitted on it a speed /cadence sensor and cyclo 505 gps computer and ready to go for some adventuring!

loaded up with everything on pics except for drink bottle, bike weights in at 8.8kg (19.4lbs). any recommendations on making it lighter? guessing hweels be a good place to start? or maybe not bother for now since i'm such a beginner it wont really make much difference dropping a kilo or so.

You can have a longer head tube on most any bike.

Yes you can but that doesn't stop the other measurements being the same. You asked 'what makes a bike ''aggressive'' ?' Generally speaking for the same amount of headset spacers and same size bearing cover, same stem length/angle. The handlebars will be lower down on a more 'aggressive' bike. Thats what i meant. The whole idea of a short headtube is to get lower and more aerodynamic.

You can put a bunch of spacers on a long fork and turn up a 17deg stem, yes, but you'll still have a steep seat tube and head tube angle which both affect cornering and stability on the straights.

I'm not sure, probably a big change. There's expected to be a tag line of "so good they skipped a generation".

How much can they really do? 10 already had internal routing, Di2 and disc brakes. I have heard 12 and new Evo will have BB30a so maybe that addresses what some see as the weak point of the CAAD/EVO line

Bikes: All have flats.

How big of a difference between a CAAD8 and 10?

Aside from slight geo/weight differences? If I were to swap in 105 or upper parts and a good wheelset, would it still be a "lower" frame on the CAAD hierarchy?

I know the 10 is race, would that make the 8 more of a "regular" road bike?

Meet Penelope! I just had her handlebar tape changed to this awesome pink! I understand the whole bike naming thing now. She actually named herself while we were speeding down a mountain road. It's like she spoke to me her name. So here she is! I have had her now for under a month and I love her! Cannondale CAAD10! She will be getting a pink seat bag soon. Seriously girly!

It's too bad the women's only bikes only have 3 different colorways.... and two of them are just plain black or white..

Suggestions of a pre-TdF announcement? A local chain has a deal until May 31: SuperSix comes with a garmin 510, caad10 comes with a garmin 200. Nothing for the synapse.

There seems to be a few shops around the country doing the same offer. Probably something to do with Cannondale and Garmin sponsoring the same pro team.

No concrete news, maybe a lefty Caad12 with Discs.. New evo with power pyramid.
I've heard there are going to be some bonkers bikes from Cannondale. If they bring a Caad gravel bike I'll be in!
Can't wait for the release in August. Don't think I've ever been as excited about a range coming out.
