this happened a few pages ago, but someone was talking about cannondale not allowing spacers on top of the stem. well the reason they have that rule is because the headset star nut kind of creates an outward force against the steerer that complements the compression force exerted by the stem. So it would be ideal to have those two lined up in the steer tube. On my bike, this was not the case, because I had a good 2 cm of spacers on top of the stem, and the bike would click randomly. ever since I sawed off the steer tube to the appropriate size, and hammered the star nut inline with the stem, the noise was gone.

I am going to cut the steerer after I get my position set. I literally just finished putting that bike together before the pic.

Apologies if this was already answered. Does anyone know where 165mm crank arms can be purchased for a CAAD12? I ride 165mm on my other bikes and really like it and it looks like just the crank arms can be replaced if I buy a CAAD12.

Beautiful CAAD!!

My 2009 CAAD9-5 has over 15,000 km and the frame is going strong. I'm still running the original 105 groupset. Of course I had to replace the chain, cassett, chainrings, wheels and brakepads, but everything else is as good as new. The 7 year old 105 groupset shifts as smooth as ever. It is all in the proper set up!

I see you are still running the original ControlTech bars. I have since replaced mine for the super lightweight Cannondale C1 bars. I like the look of the compact more.

The CAAD9 is a thing of beauty, with the hourglass seat stays, the perfect welds, the classic geometry, this bike will last forever, unless i send it cartwheeling down the street.

Ride safe!

Hiya.

Mine's about 6 years old or just over, though the parts hanging on the frame have changed a million times the frame itself is still going really strong, I have zero issues with it and structurally it's as sound now as it was the day I walked out the shop.

This bike has been raced in triathlons, crits, and done long haul without any problems, and as recently as two days ago I rode it in a group ride.

Don't mind the dirty rims.

Did you set up your seat like that for the picture or is this how you ride? Cause that just screams wrong size frame.

So my Etap and Enve post and stem came this week. Still need to make some adjustments. Going to run the Campy wheels till the Enves come. Pictures do not do this frame justice.

I should have waited for the pic till after I set the bike up. I literally just popped the post in bolted the seat and snapped the pic. This is how it ended up. I still need to play with the spacers, and seat for and aft. I removed the 4mm of spacers on top of the conical and have been riding for almost a week. Feels pretty good. Going for a long ride this weekend to see how it feels before I do any cutting.

Lots of small frames had steep seat tube angles even back in the day of level top tubes and sizing by inseam. Just check some old Italian bikes. It's about the weight distribution more than the reach.

But those has intentionally steep seat tube angles in all frames sizes and people think that kind of aggressive geometry with steep angles is silly now.

Just to let anyone know who is thinking about getting the Enve post in 25mm it was well worth the money. I feel little to no vibrations transferred to my arse on standard chip seal. All I can feel is some vibration in my feet.

For those who have a caad 12, how is the comfort on it?

I'm coming from a endurance bike get Roubiax. Am I in for a big change in terms of comfort?

I think it depends on your flexibility. the Caad will be way lower in the front and more stretched. If you are running a fair bit of spacers on the Roubaix you may want to consider that. As far as the ride quality. I own a SuperSix and a SuperSix EVO HM. I spend 90% of my time on the Caad. The 25mm seatpost does make a difference, and I suppose the rear triangle design as I have no noticeable road vibration in my arse on most chipseal. I do get a little in the hands and feet. I do run thin bar tape and gloves without pads most days. A good set of wheels and tires make a big difference. So in the end, imo, it depends on what you are after. I would test ride the Caad, if possible, and see if it meets your needs. But there will be a noticeable difference in position. Whether that is comfortable for you is, well, up to you.

Stratocaster 07-19-16 02:03 PM

Hi all. I was hoping someone could help me with a technical question.
I have a 2015 CAAD 10 105 and want to "upgrade" the FSA Gossamer crank and chain rings to Shimano 105. It has nothing to do with any creaking (I apparently broke off a few teeth - and want it to match much of the rest of the bike anyway).
But it is my understanding that Shimano 105 won't fit the BB30 bottom bracket.

How should I go about doing this? I already know it's the 172.5 arm lengths, and it's 52/36 rings.
I read where someone said I would need a BB60 outboard bottom bracket. But would that fit the CAAD 10?
Threaded or press fit? ...as if I even know what this stuff means. Italian? English? yikes!
Adapters?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

SpeshulEd 07-19-16 02:21 PM

I think this might be all you need...
BB30 Adapter for 24mm Spindle Cranks (Shimano, FSA, etc.)

However, Praxis makes a proper BB for the conversion...

This CAAD12 is f#*king fast. I fell like I'm going to take off the ground at times. Blows my 05 Scott Speedster out the water. Im so addicted.

There are several, some of the easier ones might not be the best. The power meter field of electronics has really grown over the past few years. I don't have experience with many of them, but would probably say the Stages or the Garmin pedals would probably be among the easiest to install and calibrate yourself.

The DCRainmaker site would probably be a good place to start.

Stages might still be having a sale on the previous gen Shimano crank arms. I picked up a 105 arm with power meter for $370. It doesn't visually match my Ultegra drive side, but the mechanical fit is the same, having power values available is a really great tool for training.

If you're on facebook, keep an eye on this group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/onlineswap/

I just picked up the latest model Stages power meter on a 170mm Ultegra crank for $425. Not bad.

My LBS just ordered a 2017 CAAD12 105 for me. Does anyone know if there are any differences between the 2016 and the 2017, other than the colors?

Hapsmo911 07-26-16 06:16 PM

Looks like there will be some colors other than black and white....

And looks like a new Caad, although a MTB none the less a Caad
