Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That's pretty awesome... do you ever get nervous? You wouldn't stand a chance. Or are there barriers?

It's pretty mellow if you start out on a Sunday around 5:30 am. Then it gets louder and louder, but that just makes me ride faster. There are no barriers but the e-lane is generally around 12' wide at least. The alternative roads are windy 2-lane with no shoulder deals that the locals roll @ 50mph. So your options are getting passed by 50 mph traffic about 3' away or 70 mph traffic about 10' away. Every exit has to be crossed carefully, of course but it's not too tough. With the exception of one just north of here that's a 2-lane exit. I hate those. That's why I think the forbidden zone needs to be pushed up a bit.

I'd bet a lot of the interstates in your area are legal to ride as well. Pretty common in the western states.

Definitely want to be running Mr. Tuffies. E-lanes are serious debris fields!

When the wind sucks I keep hoping for a long line of trucks to roll by to block the wind and pull me along.

Ever since I saw that documentary about pure bred dogs they kinda freak me out. It's so sad to take my sister's German Shepherd out for runs because he has the gimp that's been bred into them.

Hahaha! I could imagine! It's been 3 years now since the big Hazel Dell Tornado. I was in the office but holding the office door open as it passed by. Probably pretty stupid, but oh well. It tore down a tree and a billboard about 1/8 mile away.

Y'all didn't flood as bad as Memphis and NOLA recently didja?

Oh, BTW the Columbia is at flood stage and supposed to go higher. I don't think it's going to affect the city much, however. I'm sure glad I'm about 150' above the river!

We haven't had any flooding since the end of February.

Memphis is 400 miles away. It might as well be in a different state.
