Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I pushed my car to clutch-start it barefoot one day and it totally separated the skin on the balls of my feet. Biggest, most painful single blister I've ever had.

I seem to remember getting the same type of blisters once and it was beyond painful, fatiguing and disabling. I certainly looked at the elderly and those in need of constant care in a different light after that.

I just cleaned all my Tiffany's jewelry using the baking soda+aluminum foil+boiling water method. Apparently I've been wasting money all these years having stuff cleaned at the store.

Has anyone ever told their legs to shut up, and their legs actually listened?

Just got back from the CapTex Tri. Windy as all get out. Didn't arrive early enough to see the pro men finish but saw the pro women winner clock a time of just over 2 hours. It wasn't as humid as last year so there didn't seem to be as many medical issues, although the 6th place woman immediately collapsed and was taken to the med tent. The bike is a 3 lap course and we stood for a while at the u-turn where, after making the turn, you can either exit the course or continue to your next lap. It amazed me how many would go into the turn with their inside pedal down. Some would hit it, some wouldn't. Saw one woman go down in the turn but she got up, took her bike to the side of the course, got her chain back on and then continued on.

There's a big controversy brewing with this race.
