Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I beat people riding $2000 bikes on a $20 10 speed beater

I am cheap, extremely

I have never owned any specialty clothes, water bottles, shoes or gloves.

Neon Green is my favorite color, all my bikes are brightly multicolored with no green to be seen

Don't forget to mention you have been beaten by people riding 2000 dollar bikes as well.

+1. I got into road cycling last August and lost about 20 lbs by the time it was too cold to ride. Through a lack of self control and seasonal depression I gained about 30 pounds over the winter. I'm fatter than ever now :-(

Although, I did see a number of cyclists out this spring were carrying around a bit of extra weight, so I don't feel as bad as I originally did.

Related? Sorry, bro. I also agree with the headtube thing. I am thankful that I am not a giant.

A guy who's load of pricey gear made him look like a real rider passed me, but before long I started gaining on him without meaning to so I slowed down a little because I didn't want the guy to think I was trying to pass him and then he'd blow me away and make me look like a fool but I kept gaining on him anyway so finally I just put the hammer down and passed the poseur. He never caught me and I grinned for two miles.

When I ride my road bike, I always wear my helmet. And when I see people riding a road bike without a helmet I think that they are weirdos

On the other hand, when I ride my townie (not fixie, in case you were wondering) to the store, bar, errands etc I never wear a helmet. And kinda think that people who wear helmets while riding a beach cruiser or an English 3-speed are wierdos

My new carbon fork will make me much faster than my 3T stem, bars and seatpost did.

I'm sure of it.

I also thought I lost my garmin Friday. I freaked out completely and didn't think it would be worth riding without it because I'd miss the data from my ride. I found it and did the training ride. Whewwww, that was close.

Thought I was done buying components, but last night I ordered another dashboard genie.

I've never been on a velodrome, the closest is a 3 hour drive from here, and yet I desperately want a track bike.

I if I don't finish a ride feeling like I just kicked my own ass, I'm in a bad mood for the rest of the day.

Conversely, I live 15 minutes from said velodrome and have no desire for a track bike. But I will be buying some 88mm tubulars....because i need them.

I looked at some sew-ups hanging on a peg at the LBS Saturday and didn't say "what the hell are these?" because of all the stuff I've learned on bikeforums.net.
