Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

ROLF MAO!!! as 531 would say. That's exactly what I would imagine runs through his brain.

Hoi, another noob quick question. Going to do a mini bulk online buy for tires. Want red suckers to get a bit of colour on the bike. Which would you fellas choose? Veloflex Pave's, or Michelin Pro Race's? (Yeah I know both probably wont do 10000 km).

I'm a cheapskate, so I'd buy all-black tyres (no, not Kiwi tyres), some red paint, and a paint brush or two.

Yes...old Rolf, indeed

Me and me mates have been forced to acknowledge Langer, now that he's got
21 tonnes....but he's still a suck. What's this about him bawling to Tugga after he
got back in the team when Slats went crazy-arse-bonkers over hi divorce?

I find Michelins a little too balloony. I only get about 2500kms out of rear tyres, so I just get
the $38 Continental GPs. I've never been into spending over 60 bucks for tyres.

Well I'm to lazy to re-apply at every stop, so that's no go. Otherwise a fantastic idea.

Camaan, pick a tire. You don't have to have used it. Don't even have had heard of it. I just need someone to blame if I buy 20 and find out after the second they're crap.

You guys come across glueless patches yet?

I find it a bit tricky to get ALL the talc off in a hurry if I have to fix a flat.
Most people use it though.

Amazing how many people hate the little gnome. Don't know why. If a little polishing can get him ahead, then why not?

I'll figure out what balloony means one day (they're so light you bike actually floats?). If you could get either of my choices for $40, would that change your view?

BTW, which Continental GP's you talking about? There seem to be a thousand different versions which start out with that monicker.

Nope.

Doesn't licking them do a good enough job?

Oh, okay. I might be prone to exageration sometimes.

BTW, those Conti's (3000's) from the store I'm looking at cost the same. You using a cheaper variety?

Yup. Its called a new tube.

I have a large collection of punctured tubes about to get shipped off to the LBS's "support the children" fighting fund. I can't be bothered walking home from places unknown because of a dud repair.

Balloony tyres don't have the right "grippy" feel when you're turning (yes, floaty or squishy is right). That translates into a lack of confidence, which in real terms means NO SPEED loser.

They seem to be a tiny bit higher in profile, and a bit too soft and comfortable. I like 'em HARD

I'm trying to find a good link. They're wire beaded (non-foldable)

Bah. I don't need to worry about a lack of grip to be a no speed loser. I'm so scared of stacking my bike I almost get off and walk it around corners. As long as they look pretty, ride and roll alright, then all my requirements are covered.

this link taking ages to load up for some reason.

If you buy online, you should be able to get them for under $35

Michelins are good tyres -- heaps of guys love them -- it's just me

The Specialized All Condition Pro's that came on my bike seem to roll like *****, ride like *****, and wear like *****. And they're soft suckers.

This Kenda POS is hard and I like it so far. You might be onto something.

AUD$37.28 for 5 of them. Might be getting a heap of other ***** from them, so shipping shouldn't knock me around to bad.

Hey 531. Notice yet munchie bagging out your beloved steel over here? Better go tune him up some.

I'm think they're a $75+ dollar tyre; in which case, I'd give them a try for that price.

Cecil Walker have a Pro Race for $98!! Is it the same tyre?

Yeah, look to be. Farg buying at that price. Obviously don't want to sell any. Every Cecil I know have been thieves. Must be something about the name.

I thought I knew it all a while ago, but the more I read and ride, the more I just think I dunno not nothin'.

My steel Cervelo is grouse, but I'm starting to wonder if a lot of it has to do with the
Columbus Muscle (full carbon) fork. It's the most expensive fork I've ever used by a mile

Awww. Don't give up that easy. Go have a rant whether you think your right or not. Works for everyone else.

Anyway, any bike that looks as pretty as yours must be also the lightest, fastest, best riding thing around. So don't let them bag yer steely.

Anyway, got to work tomorrow. :sob:

So off to bed with dreams of feisty ladies for me.

When you don't have a spare tube, or get your second flat of the ride, these little buggers might just get you home. And they're not too big to pack. I sound like an advertisement...
