Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yep, he's not going anywhere soon. He's a BIG attraction down there.

``People think I'm nuts. But it's like a disease,'' said Geller, who joined more than 140 Mr. Peanut enthusiasts in Atlantic City for the 23rd Annual Peanut Pals convention at the Holiday Inn Boardwalk. The three-day convention ends today. Peanut Pals, which boasts 600 members worldwide, gathered to swap, sell, trade or just chat about all things Mr. Peanut, a symbol of Planters Peanuts since 1916.

How do you join up? And is it possible to unjoin if you aren't satisfied with what Peanut Pals has to offer?

I can't imagine anyone not being satisfied with Peanut Pals. I had a Mr. Peanut coin bank. Peanut shaped, of course. But if there's anything history has taught us, it's to never trust a nut with a monocle.

Bern, welcome to The Aussie Thread. It's thick with seppos, and thin on road bike chatter. As soon as I get my 24" cruiser and start racing BMX I'll drag it down even further. And all the guys here worship Lance Armstrong as the greatest living cyclist. [ducks]

Bugger. I lied (on account of me not being able to do simple time based subtraction).

The graph (undeniable bringer of truth) sez it was 9:15, so I will have to try again another day. Still it was quick for me. A little bit more effort and I'll be sub 9:00 like yoself.

Munchie, I'm giving BMX a go. I get to start in the Masters with the rest of the oldies, and races only last 30-45 seconds. The way I understand it, training involves sprints to the local bottle shop.

Hey, badsac.

How is your Roubaix going? I'm still considering getting myself one, just unsure of what size and I'll have to decide having never swung a leg over one.

Couldnt tell me what your height and inseam are could ya, badsac?

I should have ridden to work today

I rarely drive because I'm always in too much of a hurry, but today was one of those days because I was late home from training. Bloody freeway was backed up (3 lanes wide) for 10km!! So I hooked an illegal U-turn and headed for the old Pacific Hwy: also backed up.

So here I am working from home, with three little nippers going berserk and the guy on the radio reminding me of just how bad the trip to Sydney is today.

Yeah, the dead guy that's caused that backup probably has it a bit worse.

I'm not good with geometry. Oh wait, geography. If I heard correct in my sleep, there's a bridge at or near Hawksbury, and there was a fatal car accident there, with traffic backed up for 10k. Did you ever sign up for that 100k off road race?

Not signed up yet, waiting to see how fit I am by March. Right now I wouldn't tackle 100kms, 50 maybe.

The first ride we took on the tandem was over 50k, and the missus hadn't ridden in years. What's another 50 when you're the most evil man in the universe?

Munchie, stop being so technical!

I know it's not a ROAD bike thing, but we decided not to enter as there's no class for us (I did not say we have no class!) therefore no prizes, so we'd basically be paying $80 to drive for 3 hours or so and ride a course different from the local ones we ride. Ho hum.
