Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

WhAAAAAAAAT... 50 time trials??!!! That would have to be
about 49 more than the average Carnegie Caulfield rider!

Why so many?

What's your best flat stage time?

Its not really that many....most 'tours' have a T/T stage, do 3 or 4 of them a year, plus the odd club comp, vets titles etc....its soon adds up. Dunno about best times.....A TT is only a measure of an individuals pace over a given course ,on a given day...weather conditions can play havoc with T/Ts. i di one last year...coming up plumpton rd at diggers (ed will know it)...the wind was that strong...I was pushing 39-23 HR @ 180 doing about 14 kph. if i did say the same course today, I'd be doing 35kph thru the same part of the TT....i guess I can hold 95% MHR for an hour or so......so whatever speed that means...I'm happy with high 30's low 40's I s'pose

Hmmmmm, now there's a challenge that's actually worthwhile. High speed bragging rights. There's nothing better than a little bit of highspeed hijinks to liven up your day. I got pulled over once for passing a cop car on the left. The mongrel stopped 400m behind me just to prove a point and made me walk all the way back up the hill just to tell me that it wasn't a very sensible thing to pass cars on that particular bit of road. He was right, but since when did common sense come into downhill runs?

c'mon, we're not talking TDF, giro or Vuelta's here....more like ' Tour of cardinia', 'Tour Of Sthn Grampians', 'Tour Of bright', Nth combine Tour' etc etc......most of 'em are 4 stages over 2 or 3 days......not exactly racking up the UCI points!

On the ride the other night, one guy had a TIME something or other (bike), and I've gotta say it didn't look all that spectacular. I dunno what year it was, but it had the usual colour scheme, and I think it was sloping.

It looked almost grey, and I actually think it looked a bit cheap. It definitely didn't look
like a $4000 frame.
