Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm thinking the subject of nervous 'pooing' is appropriate about now.

(Max Walker voice) "Yyyyyeeeeeeesss......been there before."

My Dutch club entered me in the amateur version (actually elites zonder contracteren) of the semi-classic Veenendaal-Veenendaal when I was there.....fark me was I nervous! TV, full-on teams with cars and rows of identical bikes lined up, blokes at about 5% bf wandering around tanned and oiled up to the bejeezus....I reckon I used up more energy getting ready than in the first 50km!!

thanks for that ed!....you "do" know how i'm feeling then!......I'm gunna try & ignore them all & just do my own thing till the start......the most exciting & terrifying thing about riding with pro's, (done a few before but nothing this big!), is that you know all the blokes in the Div.1 team uniforms...actually earned them, rather than the normal training bunch wannabes!

Impossible....no matter how cool I ever tried to play it, a pro can't go from the pages of Cycle Sport suffering at Flanders to "just another bloke in the bunch". My eyes were out on stalks.....I remember one training ride I went on over there in the backblocks of holland somewhere and I'd swung off the front to go to the back and slotted in nicely next to Mr Erik Bruekink.

I was like a 15 yo girl getting backstage at a Justin Timberlake concert...

...lol....well I'll try not to squeal that much when i'm dropping Henk & Willo, hans & the boys.....Lol......the problem i've had lately, is that blokes look at the 486 & assume i must actually be 'someone'!........it's emabarrassing to have to say, "actually i'm a no-one who was having a mid life crisis & blew all his savings"!...lol.....its worse when i put the cosmics on it.....looks real 'euro pro'...gotta start talking bulgarian or something!...lol

Anyway, good luck, Hitchyoheyoheyoheyoheee. I know a guy called Jason who'll be helping out the "Omara" boys (oooh, bike shop boys), who wear dark blue and yellow, so, if you're lying on the side on the road I'm sure he'll pick you up.

Or do you have your own support vehicle?

I've jumped on their training bunch a few times, and there's really only one guy that I would say was a "very strong" rider -- (Justin, someone), so I was a bit surprised to hear that a few of them were entering.

Wot?....he's thinking about a 5900 as against a C50 or a litespeed.......why is it taht seppo's think that Trek's are actually good?...that Lance bloke has a lot to answer for!....wonder if they ever ride 'em before they buy 'em......& they are hideously expensive!.......I got the 486, Full DA, carbon post, cinelli neo bar 7 stem & cosmics (& keo's one day!) cheaper than i coulda got a madone 5.9......& then we'll talk about the ride! of the things!

i am going to have a Michael Douglas from "Falling Down" moment if another spanner from Buttfukk, Idaho starts another thread about "do you wear bib shorts?" or "Do you wear socks in your cycling shoes?"....I mean, that's like asking "Do you wash your arse in the shower?"!!! WTF????
