Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeah it's a Brit mag but they have a US version, Phil Ligget is the editor. I like it better than ProCycling. The spead covers Phil Anderson, Scott Sunderland, Robbie McEwen, Stuart O'Grady, Michael Rogers, and Alan Peiper.

Have you seen what that "guns" discussion has turned into over at cyclingforums? ....man....heavy.
Don't worry, Hitchyoheyoh, you wouldn't have time to read it all at work anyway -- it's long and deep.

I tried a tragic return to cricket about fours years ago in a desperate
attempt to reclaim my youth. I tell ya, nothin' makes you feel like you're
fifteen again than standing at the nets on a thursday night in summer with a slightly
used Kookaburra in your hand, and a big red stains all over your clothes.
But it all ended in tears; I'd forgotten how to play. Then I hurt my shoulder from
too much bowling, then crashed my bike, and I haven't been able to do me
shoulder presses properly ever since. I can't do upright rows at all!!

DON"T do upright rows, period. Esp. if you have a pre-existing injury. They cause a pinching action inside the shoulder called shoulder impingement and over time will lead to chronic injury.

for traps use: deadlifts, DB and/or BB shrugs, farmers walks....

there you go!

Oh well, like I said, I haven't been able to do them for about four years, and I could never do them heavy anyway. I used to like them as a good variation, coz I found they hit the middle of my middle delts.

I've got a good "variety exercise" for delts, but it looks a bit dicky: dumbell presses, but with a supine grip that doesn't rotate -- so the dumbells stay parallel to each other for the whole movement. A lot of elbow flexion though, so if you have dodgey elbows.....

My iron pumping has become a joke. I usually just wait for a rainy day when I can't ride, so I only do them about once every 5 or 6 days, and do them all at once -- at home! This includes no legs, and a laughable lat workout, invloving about 5 sets of chin-ups on the pergola

Hammer-grip shoulder press. good exercise. Pullups on the pergola.....lol!!!

If you want to hit the "middle" or lateral head of the delt specifically, use the good ol' lateral dumbell raise.

no one does them right because they can't cope with using such a small weight..."pour the milk", or something similar.

Gah. This thread should be called "The Bloody Melbournite Thread". Just full of mexicans. Which would be fine, but I really need some Sydneysiders to give me some advice on what bike shops down in Sydney have a heap of stock on their floors so we can get a better idea of what bikes are like rather than just looking on the net. Me and a mate are going down on Monday but at this stage we don't have a clue where to go.

this is not a comprehensive list, but it's a start: https://www.bicycles.net.au/links/shops.html#nsw

Can I suggest the bleeding obvious? Check the yellow pages.

EDIT:
Oh, I get it, you want independant accounts of what these shops stock, not what some bozo salesman will tell ya.

Hey, Hitch, did you miss that little sledge "53-11" gave ya on page one of the "Double or Triple" thread? It's not like you not to have a comeback

Yeah 531. Yellow pages doesn't do me much good when it says nothing about the shops in question. Was a thread over at cyclingforums about Sydney bike shops with a dude raving about Stanmore cycles. Month or so back when I was driving past stopped in for a look and they had stuff all. He might give great service but that doesn't help me when there's nothing to look at. I've read enough crap on the net. I need to touch and feel a few bikes now.

I also asked this question over at cycling forums, but that bunch of unfriendly bastids wouldn't get back to me.

[Edit] Thanks for that link though. Should come in handy.

g'day,

if you pick up a copy of 'bicycling australia' that might give you some clues....the bike shop ad's seem to be very 'sydney centric'....you'll probably find one there. thers a big shop in Parramatta, (dunno the name or address!)...just on the main drag, on a corner, just down from the river, past the hotel that I can't think of the name of (something or other 'on the park?').....is that vague enough for ya?....but at least its on your side of town!

cheers,

Hitchy

Thanks heaps for that Hitchy.

Yeah 53-11's just a troll, and not even a good one. A subtle and witty troll is okay. He's just crap and not worth bothering with unless one's bored.
