Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Name??
I knew you'd ask that...He did say, but because I was low on oxygen at the time, I forgot... At least, that's my excuse.

If it helps any, he was riding a yellow CF bike with a Euro brand that I'd never heard of...

......you have this unnatural obsession with blokes thighs, wattsy?.....i'm beginning to worry about you!....yeah the pricks that run the 'warnie' heard that I had taken the pledge, so they increased it 35km this year...took out a couple of the climbs...so i guess that evens things out....I can't even think about racing 300km!.....I'm just doing 6 x 50km splits...it's the only way i can mentally cope with it!......5 days to go & I'm PUMPED & READY!......(if i keep saying it maybe i'll start believing it!)

Have you got the eating thing sorted out? I would have no idea. I reckon that'd be tricky becasue it would surely take some practise to get it right, let alone get it right on one of your first long races -- or have you done one before?

G'day,

gunna sit down tonight & work thru it. I'm trying to have 70 to 80 gms of carbs per hour. The problem is being able to carry it & actually eat it......I can't see to many opportunities to eat in the first couple o' hours, (can't chew & breathe at 60kmh!!!) so it's gunna be a balancing act. 1st feed station at 100km then the next at 230km......so assuming I'm there by the time the sun goes down.....multiply the number of carbs needed x my birthdate, takeawy the number you first thought of......divided by the number of teeth on the big ring.......add a little for the number of p!ss stops...take away the fine for crossing double lines X 3.........should be about right I reckon!..........the boys are already talking about stopping at every junk food drive thru between Warnie & melb on the way back!......do you think it's possible to do melb- warnie & actually put on weight?

It's called jealousy...but in a 'manly' sort of way.

BTW hitchy, I counted 3 chicks on the ride on Saturday...I thought there was a rule against the fairer sex riding the Hell Ride

I've seen two crashes on the Tuesday night ride, both caused by chicks

You should hop onto that ride, Wattsy. It goes down New St. at about 6:45 to 6:55pm, then turns at Parkdale at about 7:05 to 7:15. It's apparently not as hard as The Hell Ride, mainly because they only go hard for the 20km on the way back to Elwood

Cool, now that the weathers warming up, I can emerge from my cave (er...garage) and do more road K's during the week.

Yep, the copper was directing everyone up the side street. He was not happy with bike riders in general, so I assume that was because of the bike that went down.
