Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ah - I thought that you were further south. Driving back from Red Wing, last year, the road on the WI side of the river, roughly between (whatever's opposite of) Red Wing and (whatever's opposite of) Hastings looked like it might be fun, but it's not a round-trip that I would undertake lightly and I just don't like the idea of driving somewhere to bike.

It was fun to watch the fast women shell the guys at Mt Evans. We were at the 15 mile/3000ft of gain mark, so the men, women, and citizen riders were all intermixed. Some of the women were hauling ass.

At that point, with Mt Evans looming, I would have hopped off my bike and gone into the lodge for a beer.

Prescott (Hastings) to Hagar City (Red Wing) along hwy 35 that is a great ride. I recently did that route going south along the Wisconsin side and then back up the MN side.

I think it runs through the end of the month and the podium will be at the beginning of August Addiction.

Cool - that's not as long as I thought it might be; it'd probably be about 120-130 round trip for me. I'm going to keep that in the back of my mind for a late summer/early fall ride on a day when I can ditch the wife and kid.

John, on P/Z, is the one who works it. 180 pounder slamming up that hill at his speed, is pretty impressive.

I am signed up to do the ADK Ididaride in two weeks, and their site says something like 75 miles and 6800 ft of climbing. It is more like 77 miles, and 5200 ft, and I will do it on the SS. It is a fun group of people, a cause I support, and the SS puts me in line speed wise with the friend I ride with. And the SS is just plain fun.
@WhyFi, once you get there, you will wonder why you weren't there sooner.

The idea appeals to me and I would love to have an SS that's better than a knock-around (and south of 25lbs), but at this point, a new SS frame would be a Christmas present to myself, at the earliest.

Any guesses as to which thread gets locked first? This one or the "rip off" one??

I would give 50-50 odds as of now.
