Who does the P90X workouts?
I do. I needed somthing to supplement my regular trainer rides, which were resulting in my gaining weight. So, i added p90X. What an awsome workout!!! It will kick your butt, no matter what condition you are in. It has options for beginner, intermediate, and the fully advanced athelete who thinks he can keep up with the work out routines.
anyone really interested in keeping in shape during the off season should give this a shot. if you stick with it, you will see amazing results in 90 days, no matter what your conditioning right now.
My other option was to continue to ride the trainer and put on weight. I recommend this workout if you are interested in increasing your VO2 max and if you want to be in better overall shape. that is my goal as i never anticipate being a "professional cyclist". I seriously doubt most of the BF membership are professional level riders either. Dont do it if you dont want to. i dont care. Its a killer workout. Try it and see.

I've never done it but I've heard good things. I imagine it's good for cardio but if you want to be better on the bike probably best to just ride more. If it's keeping you healthy though that's the good thing.

I am on week 15 this is the most thorough workout I have ever done. I am 55 years old and rode 3000 miles by Nov. 1. My riding buddy started P90X in the spring and I watched his riding improve all summer. I thought I was in pretty good shape last fall after doing a double century in southeastern Ohio but this program kicked my butt the first month. I have been staying with the exercise program and doing my own nutrition. I work out on my trainer a couple times a week and get in a run or two also. I feel like I am in better shape than I have been in years and look forward to getting back on the road!

The results in everyone that I've seen do P90X are about the same as someone going on a diet. It works, for the 90 days. But it's so intense that I haven't seen anyone able to keep an enduring routine once it's over. In my opinion it's better to just gradually and consistently increase your workouts.

yeah, sure you do r. like I originally said, I don't care if you don't do it. I'm sure if you are a cat 1 racer who has several thousand dollars coming in per year from sponsors you dont need this to stay in shape. Also, my original post asked who does this workout. I dont give a **** if you dont.
donnie, if I "legally" can share the DVDs with you, I'm happy to. It has kempo karate which would be interesting with your TKD. and the other workouts give your eniter body a heck of a workout. so much more than just riding on a trainer can do. its an overall body workout. I was wondering if it would benefit my cycling any at all, but after my 36 mile ride this past weekend, I have to conclude it really does.
you have to try it to see. even if the only benefit is the weight loss, that coupled with the workout of muscle groups you do not ordinarily work on the bike is Great!!
I just can't ride the trainer more than an hour and an half or so, which is a CTS or Spinervals workout, plus a half hour before I'm just too bored to continue any more. On the road I can ride 5-7 hours, not in the basement, so I find P90X a great addition to the winter workouts.

for the goal, this seems great.
i also gain weight in the winter. up to 15 lb, but most of that is gone within the first month or two of my getting in more than 3 rides a week.

The core synergists workout is excellent. the abdominal workout is intense. Both core and abs are very important to my riding. the stretching and aerobic routines are wonderful in helping me lose weight. also, the chest, shoulers, back and arm workouts help in developing muscles for good posture, making riding in the drops better, and all of the workouts of course help in weight loss and muscle development.
No only are there workouts that build your calves and glutes, but the tendons that connect these muscles, as well as the IT band are worked.
I have found it very beneficial for me. Some of the much better atheletes on here may not benefit at all, like rpeterson above I assume. I don't follow the nutritional plan exactly, since my vegitarian, organic diet is almost exactly what they have recommended. I didn't purchase their protien shakes, I got muscle milk at costco, and I still use cytomax on my rides.
I has helped keep the winter weight off, while keeping my entire body in shape. cycling is a muscle memory, repetitive sport. P90X is a muscle confusion series of workouts, so you don't get used to doing the same thing. overall it has made me stronger.
Perhaps it's not for you. It can't be for everyone, and I'm sure it's not. The intent of my thread was to see who is doing it, and speak to them about it, as well as answering questions about it for others, which is what I'm trying to do now, as it has helped me tremendously.

Nope, just a recreational cyclist with the same goals as you. I was interested in the program because of all the great reviews I'd seen of it, so I researched it to see if it would be worth trying. In the end I came to the conclusion I posted above, and I'll stand by it.

At one time or another over the past decade, I've done a little bit of almost every workout routine out there -- usually not DVD-based, but stuff from knowledgeable people. You'd think that I could walk into a gym and ad-lib a workout, but I just don't care to. What I like about P90X is that it gives me a bunch of things to do, much more than just alternating daily among back n' bi, then chest n' tri, then cardio.
It's also actually self-paced. If you suck, you still suck
, but usually they have someone in the room who's doing an easier variation that'll at least keep you moving. You'll do the exercises better as time goes on. Maybe I'll be able to do plyo pushups someday. If P90X actually gets easy, then augment it with Shaun T's Insanity series. Hoo-yeah...
P90X trivia -- Pink, the singer, does P90X after being introduced to it by her trainer, Dreya Webber -- who's one of the women in several of the DVDs. She also says that she usually turns off the sound because she thinks Tony's commentary gets to be cheesy.

(speaking of the sound, you can play the DVDs with full audio, just Tony's voice, just his vocal cues for changing exercises, or just music; pretty cool for playing your own music during the workout)

Work out really hard for about an hour a day and eat a calorie restricted diet and you'll lose weight . . . revolutionary!
in all seriousness, it's not bad, but there's nothing new about it really. It's just good for someone who needs a specific regimen to follow (not necessarily a bad thing as long as you're realistic), but there are cheaper plans out there.

I am optimistic that the weather will break soon and I'll be on the road more often than not very soon. I am already planning on giving the P90X plan a good try next fall for my off-season fitness. I've heard some great things about from others that I ride with.

As you already know David, I use the program. I'm still not following any diet plan or workout schedule, but I enjoy just having the DVD to throw in and make myself workout. Haven't touched it in nearly three weeks though because that shoulder is still giving me a lot of issues.

P90X workouts will own you. I did a handful of them over the summer and I couldn't believe how much work they were. If you were faithful to them, I'm sure your fitness would increase. Well, at least most people's fitness would.
