i like grilled cheese on challah with fontina, muenster, and/or havarti. if you can spinach, basil, and tomato in there with lots of garlic, it's beautiful.
i also like making grilled cheese with just cheap-ass store bread, cheddar and a thick layer of ground basil (fresh is good, but i like the effect grinding has on thr flavor...maybe use a mortar and pestle if you have one).
chicken salad with just a wee bit of extra dill, or some extra pickles, on a challah bun with provolone--also amazing.

A chacarero, hand's down. It's a Chilean sandwich on home-baked round bread with avocado spread, green beans, grilled meat of your choice (or roasted red peppers, which is what vegetarians like myself get), meunster cheese, fresh ground salt and pepper, and their secret hot sauce which sets my entire face on fire. God I love those things!!

Philly is the best place ever for the sandwich.
Baconeggancheese samwich wit saltpeppaketchup
--OR--
saxageeggancheese
Italian hoagies wit olive oil & oregano
Cheesesteak wit saltpeppaketchepfriedonions
Philly rules. For those of you eating cheesesteaks OUTSIDE philly: whatever you are eating may taste good, sure. But it is NOT a cheesesteak. ****, its hard enough to get a proper cheesesteak IN philly these days.

agreed. i lived there for a couple of years, and i can NOT eat a cheesesteak anywhere else. i tried once, and got mad. that thing wasn't a goddamn cheesesteak. i'm of the opinion that all i cheesesteak needs is meat, bread, and cheese, and those even have to be just right.
is joe's on south street still around? from what i've heard, it sounds like the relapse store is right underneath it...

No one in Chicago should ever want for fine sandwiches. Our cup runs over.
My overall favorite is probably the pastrami at Manny's, on the near south side. An unoffical supplier to at least some of the BFFG Meat n' Greet.

Always better on an onion roll.
Another excellent option is the Cubano at Taqueria La Oaxaqueña, on Milwaukee Avenue near Paulina (we rolled right by it on the TDC today). This sandwich...it's a Mexican torta, roughly the size and shape of a flatted NCAA-regulation football, containing generous servings of chorizo sausage, milanesa (fried, breaded steak), guacamole, ham, red onions, cheese, and a split-and-grilled kielbasa (which has a tendency to roll out, and around).
Not to mention the many wonderful sausages at Hot Doug's.

Chi-city rules the sandwich scene.

la dolce vita bodega in park slope hooked up the ultimate - tuna salad, roast beef, bacon, swiss, dijon, sprouts and lettuce on a hoss onion roll. best $4 ever.
i'm also a huge fan of salami, spinach cream cheese, banana peppers, and sprouts on an everything bagel from BBC.

Occasionally I'll add some nice aged hard salami as well.

(meant straightedge, i am vegan and haven't found a compelling reason not to be yet, but this thread got close. i miss me some sammiches!)
masi: not yet. i just put a c-record seatpost on it, so cranks and seatpost are, not sure what i'm gonna do about wheels...
i'm also starting to think that i might like super-record better than i like c-record. i figure it's a sure sign that i'm becoming an old fogey.
when you coming up?
