EggbeatingFroghoppingATACkage.

I'm edging towards going clipless, and I was wondering if the people who use eggbeaters, frogs, and time atacs, could say what model they have/would recommend.
I recall a few weeks ago, I was considering buying Eggbeater SL's (I'm pretty sure it was SL) from Performance because they were on sale, and I read something here that changed my mind. I can't find it now, but if you recommend or do not recommend a certain material/brand lemmie know.

Unfortunaley, I don't have all the money in the world. Otherwise, I would buy one of each and leave you all in peace.

the big concern with eggbeaters is that the brass cleats wear quickly if you walk in your bike shoes. if you keep a close eye on them, it isn't a problem...but if you're the type to forget that kind of thing, you may end up paying for it in unexpected pullouts.

otherwise, they're pretty great.

if you're mtn bike shoes the cleat thing is a non issue. they also have a premium cleat that is made from a harder brass that a couple more bucks.
i've been running beaters with the same cleats on my sidi dominators for over a year and a half and they work great.

Bikes: Rocky MT Track, Vivalo, Pista Concept, De Bernardi Track

Time ATAC.... any one of 'em (Alum, XS) works great
If you walk around in your shoes get MTB shoes

i ride clipless and am against the eggbeaters. if your riding breakless that is.they dont have adjustable spring tension so with a hard skid you could pull out. the atac xe's are adjustable and same concept go with the atac's. i ride spd by the way. but want to get atac

well, it isn't a non-issue with my humble shimano shoes, unless the ground i'm walking on is totally level.

i ride brakeless with eggbeaters, know others who do the same, and i haven't had any problems... i'm big (230ish), skid, skip and all that jazz. today in fact i had to decelerate asap and was pulling back hard enough to skid the rear wheel. i still had a colission, but whatever... point is, i have 100% confidence in my eggbeaters. had about 50% with spd's. wouldn't go there again

Bikes: heh, like that info would fit here...

I use eggbeater SL and C on my personal bikes, and most of our work bikes have spd. I feel completely confident in the eggbeaters. Been using them for just over a year, haven't unintentionally pulled out yet, and I click in and out well over a hundred times per day. I ride a front brake, though, and rarely skid or skip. If I was a serious skidder, I'd probably actually go clips and double straps...

I have the ATAC XS carbons and they are probably the best (and most expensive) pedals I have ever owned. I think the ATAC XS aluminum pedals would suffice, the only reason I got carbons was because I found the NIB for $80. I wouldn't go lower than the xs though because I like having the ability to adjust the tension of the pedal. The inability to adjust tension is also the reason I didn't go with the eggbeaters. I skid, skip and all of that other bull**** and have never pulled out of my time's... spd's now that is a whole other mess. I enjoy the convenience of clipless and the increased "feel" of the bike, I honestly don't think I will ever go back to clips and straps.

Bikes: several. blue. fun.

i ride ubersupercheapie ATAC aliums, have owned 3 pair now, and love 'em. no problems with falling out, ever. and i can't adjust the tension, but it doesn't matter, cuz i've never had problems...

screw SPD's. i fall out of that crap all the time. they don't have enough float, they come unclipped to easily no matter how tight you adjust them. they're an outdated technology. everything else is better, imo.

7 degrees isn't enough? In the 10 years or so I've been riding SPDs, I believe I've accidentally unclipped once. Proper setup and cleat angle = no problems.

I have ridden just about everything and I currenly have frogs on everything (cross, SS MTB, MTB, road). I think these are some of the easiest to get into and out of (especially if the conditions are sloppy (but then again, so are the others you mention.)) I find these to be the easiest on the knees as you have all the float you will ever need/want. I would, however, probably not ride them on a fixed gear bike. They have not detent at the outside of rotation to let you know that you are about to disengage and that could cause a problem with skips etc.

Everything else, go frogs...BTW, I ride the stainless...I don't want titanium anywhere near my pedal spindles or BB thank you...

I have ATAC Aliums on my moutain, cyclocross, and track bike. I've never accidentally unclipped them. I also wear mountain bike shoes with steel lugs up front, so the cleats rarely touch the ground. Next time I'll buy the more expensive Time's with the better bearings. The plastic dust cap on the end of the pedal spindle of the Alium works its way loose once in awhile, and allows the pedal to shift laterally over the spindle -- seems like kind of a design flaw to me. Anyway, I just wrapped teflon tape around the threads of the dust cap, and that seems to hold it tight. That being said, I really like the simplicity of the spring mechanism. Plus, if you want to increase the release angle, which I have not needed to do, you can swap the left and right cleats.

eggbeater C! never clipped out unintentionally. with eggbeaters you will probably go through several bearings and sets of cleats before the unadjustable spring wears out.

i ride frogs on my road bike. they're awesome but both pedal and cleat are delicate- imo too delicate for every day riding. and ask britpac about how thepedals sometimes explode.

eggbeaters have really small platforms. they give me hot spots on my feet after about 20 mi so i stay away

They don't rely on spring tension alone to hold the cleat in like other pedals do. The harder you try to pull out of an eggbeater, the tighter they get. Think of a scissors - if you pull on the handles, the blades close. If you're skidding hard enough to pull out of any clipless pedal, you're going to need knee surgery by the time you're 35.

I like eggbeaters for city riding because they're so dang easy to clip into.

Time ATACs with brass cleats, you can't go wrong.
Nice and floaty for the knees.

come on, everyone knows putting frogs on a lanster makes them explode, just like using road cranks makes the BB explode.

Bikes: yes please.

i have a couple pairs of eggbeater ss, single ti, candy sl's... blah blah blah i love them all. i have them on all my road, track, cyclocross, and moutain bikes. i find my cleats do touch the ground, especially as my humble specialized shoes wear down from commuting and especially mountain biking. the only time i unclip is when my cleats are super worn. i find i have to replace my cleats once a year. i don't mind one bit though because of how much i love them.

the only other pedal i would consider would be atac.

atac xe are not adjustable. they are the nonadjustable version of the xs.

have you tried the eggbeaters? it will make a lot of sense if you do or have.
