I thought shants were more or less a hipster affectation until i made myself some after destroying some regular pants by getting them caught in my chain. Now I see the point and like em a lot! They keep your knees warm like pants, stay out of the chain without sketchy undependable rolling that unrolls at the worst time, and they aren't as funny looking as tights. Mine are a very light cotton that gets wet fast but dries really fast too. I'll stick with lycra on long rides but im loving the short pants for riding around town.

yeah, i just ordered a pair and i'll be getting them hopefully tomorrow. looks really nice. sometimes i just wanna not look like im out for a race....like when this weekend i'll be doing a 60 mile ride and then having lunch and possibly dinner in a neighborhood that's not so full of bikers...i'd like to look casual but still sport technical gear and i think these knickers are the way to go. what i really wanted to buy as well but didn't end up forking up the cash for was the merino wool jersey. i did however check out the stuff they have at Rapha and i must say their products look REALLY awesome. im thinking about getting the climbers cap from them. sometimes i wanna ditch the helmet too even tho it's not such a good idea.

I did the cutoff shants thing a lil while ago to a pair of pants I never wore, can't wait till it's warm enough to wear them outside!

it's warm enough here for my shants! My girlfriend describes them as "goofy looking" I think they're just downright functional and urban chic.

sure they may feel great and what not ... fashion [i'm shallow] doesn't call me to get a pair ...

but honestly, knickers ?

terrible name, it stirs up scenes of englishmen telling whiners to not get their "knickers in a bunch" .. or some farnsworth bentley umbrella dancing ...

whatever, pants roll up don't they ?

I bought a pair of Swerve knickers. They're cheaper, but don't have any padding. I usually wear lycra shorts under them which is nice cause I can take them off if I get hot and I don't have to wash them as often. The only trouble is that I'm getting some ass fade after only a dozen or so rides and two washes. They're also a little tight for my taste.

Go to OLD NAVY, like right NOW and they sell thier nylon cargo pants for under 14 bucks. Snip snip sew sew and wooola. Shants.

Cheap. Easy. Custom. And you can mail the left overs to relatives for birthday gifts.

I got tired of my sister saying I was "dressing like a messenger" when I had dickies cut mid-calf. So I bought some German Msurplus wool pants and gave them a taper around the ankles with enough space in the seat to remain comfy. So they're like tights and pants in 1. The whole thing cost me like $20. I can't spend more than that. They could use some cargo pockets, though. Wool rules.

i didn't photoshop those orbs into my pic. my apt is really haunted.

Here in Australia underwear is sometimes referred to as knickers. Mostly female panties. I'm pretty sure the ye olde 3/4 length pants from Britain(?) are the original knickers. Knickerbockers?
