PS - any tips on how to imbed an image in the message as many other have? Do you have to have them posted on a site and linked as a URL?

I like the flat bars, ape hangers hold a special place in my heart. Cool surly.

That.

I am thrilled to see more and more SS 29ers 'round here. Muh kinda bikez!

I didn't notice that Moots has the Vittoria file-tread cross tires, not road tires... :o

It is, indeed, a cross bike with a really bizarre choice of wheels. Not into the discs, but user's choice, after all.

....and yes, SS-road bikes are a huge snore.... SS ≠ fixed gear. Fixed good, SS, BOOOOORE.

False.

You may not like singlespeed. That's your prerogative. It doesn't make it boring.

conor 02-16-08 03:51 PM

i used to think that ss was pretty dumb, but now i'd like very much to have a classy ss with fenders and a cetma and a brooks and everything. too many bikes, not enough money. c'est la vie.

I dig both your bikes.

Click the little mountain icon to insert an image directly, but I think it has to be hosted off-site. The thumbnails, as you've done it, are better though.

OK, I retract much of my statement. Apparently the Brooks were in the attic.

But I still maintain that many of us are better off than we let ourselves believe. Whether we spend out money on a loft apartment or a nice camera or computers or bikes or beer, we've still got money.

As to the amount of money he spent, The end of the story says he spent close to $10,000. Thats not chump change. I'm working full time as a teacher and that is about 2/3 of my yearly pay. Even if I was going to turn around a sell a lot of it, there's not way I, nor many others, could come up with that kind of cash to get the stuff in the first place.

But I let this get out of hand. Dude made a good score and had the resources to jump on it. I've definately had some luck in my day.

Good on ya. If only there were more reclusive, compulsive, rich cyclists out there. Preferably a few who ride 60cm bikes.

When I was self-employed doing full time eBay, I regularly spent between $10-20,000 per year on merchandise. If I had found the stash that he had found, I would have gone to the bank and taken out a small business loan to handle it. It's totally worth the investment. If you're savvy, you could pay back your loan before the first payment was even due, and after that it's all profit.

Anyway, who gives a **** if he has money? So he has a good job that pays well, why is that scandalous?

Gyeswho 02-16-08 09:17 PM

I spoke to him while riding and I think I recall him saying he ended up with a $10-20k + profit after selling the stuff he bought

You don't hang out in the Road forum much, do you?

Yes! That was a good day riding with the annual ghost bikes tour...

Anyways, just to be clear for everyone I spent $10k of my own money over a period of about a year and made $20k over about a year and a half. $10k back, $10k profit and I kept a bunch of good stuff for myself. Def not all in one shot. Had I got it all in one shot I probably would've been more productive with it. Such as starting a business or spending it all in one weekend on women and drugs...

I seriously doubt you would do that.

He never said he paid cash. Paypal = Credit Cards. If the guy was selling the first one on ebay he's probably cool with paypal. Or you could even take a cash advance off your credit card. I'd do it if I knew I could sell it for more.
