i mean, rebuilding a front wheel seems like a lot less cash than replacing a frame you really like.

Yea, I definately would have rather the rim be messed up that the frame. I wasnt saying I was happy the frame is ruined. But it is ruined and I still have a wheel set which is something. But I also dont think that in this particular case a wheel would have bent and not a frame. And about the front brake.. I wasnt riding brakeless by choice, I just needed to get a hole drilled and just hadn't done it yet. I was actually discussing getting a brake at lunch that afternoon. I put together a conversion last night with a front brake. And as for the whole throwing the bike and landing on the hood... this was pretty unexpected and that's alot to compute when taking a liesure ride down the street though it would be nice if I had done that. I'm just happy I'm okay and I have a bike to ride now, it's a little too small for me, but it's what I've got right now.

taco'd rims are tottaly better duude

that looks so out of place. it makes me want to cry and i'm not sure if it's because i'm inspired, saddened, jealous, confused or aroused. welcome back, don.

Frickin sweet that they support. My only beef is that thing isn't being ridden every single day.

Here's my new Velosolex "La Parisienne." The frame was only $10, which made the inevitable French bottom bracket issues tolerable, and I was lucky to have an extra Motobecane fork of matching size and color. I've since wrapped the bars in black cork tape and switched to a mtb lever right by the stem, eliminating that enormous, ugly cable and making the bars much nicer to hold. I know this is silly, but I'm pretty pleased with the electrical tape finish, especially the "lugs."

Also, does anyone know anything about Velosolex? All I can figure out from the interwebs is that they made motor-assisted bikes in post-war France. This bike didn't have any evidence of motor assistance or weird attachments, and seemed like a garden-variety French bike from the 70s (right-hand thread on both bottom bracket cups, cottered cranks, etc.).

Pretty bike Don. I'm all for hanging bikes on walls for people to look at. I like looking at bikes! However I do think it takes more than hanging a pretty bike on a wall to show support for bike culture. Does TGI Fridays show their support for Music culture by hanging Tubas and Banjos on the wall? Do they show their support for Skiiing culture by hanging old wooden skis on the wall?

Sponsoring group rides, bike clubs, bike coops and educational workshops shows support for bike culture. Giving a discount to folks who ride their bike to the restaurant instead of driving shows support for bike culture. All that hanging pretty bikes on the walls shows is that your decorator has good taste wall decorations.

yeesh, that seat angle! dont you feel like youre slipping forward and putting a ton of pressure on your wrists? also, that fork looks like it might be bent...

Here's my new commuter:

Its an early 80s Bianchi. Nothing fancy, 41/15, sealed hubs, Aeroheads, KMC 510HX chain.
Just what I need to get to work and back =]

The fork's fine (the last time I put a bike up in this thread, it did have a bent fork that I had somehow not noticed, but this one is all good). As for the seat angle, what can I say? I like it that way. I tend to put all my weight on the back part of the saddle, and it gives just enough under my 190 lbs. that I don't slide forward at all. Also, with this angle, the front part of the saddle won't interfere with deez nuts.

Lovely. I like looking at fancy bikes as much as the next guy, but clean and classy is never a bad thing.

Well obviously you aren't doing enough dancing on the bar. An honest critique tho, Don... After seeing your bikes in person, I really think they could use more interesting paintjobs and more attractive decals and logos. They don't do your craftsmanship justice, in my opinion.

Plus one'd.

Headbadge sounds cool! I'm not saying go all landshark on us, just the typefaces you use make the designer in me cringe a little everytime I see them... Typefaces express so much even if you don't realize the history behind a font. Maybe a little pinstriping on the seat tube and a little decal there too... Sorry if im being nitpicky, I've just been planning on restoring my Stan Miles and I've been spending a bit too much time thinking about that sort of thing :D

Converted Bertoni

1980's Bertoni converted to a single speed, super light and lots of fun. Parked my road bike and now use this for commuting, bar hopping etc.

Hey all, long time no BikeForuming. I'm busy wasting my youth on strong drink and hard work, or some such crap.

Anyhow, I finally got my ANT and built it up last night. F'ing sweet.
