let me know what you guys think of my first conversion, questions. comments, concerns?

You might want to try a lower gear - 52/16 is pretty high for the street and 52/15 is really high. I would ride lower gears than that on the track.

You should ride whatever is comfortable for you and suits your terrain but something like 42 - 44/16 might be a better starting point to find the right gear. A high gear means that you have to push much harder on the pedals which is bad for your knees, especially going up hill. Riding that high a gear is also gonna make braking the rear wheel much harder and worse for your knees. It will also be less fun since you won't be able to accelerate very easily.

Well, you would if you ever showed yer face at the track :p It was a perfect day on saturday, crying out for tall folks on fancy tubie wheelsets to show us up, but once again we were Momentum free.

Good advice though.

I worded my advice fairly carefully as I was only too aware of my non appearance! My bed won the battle I'm afraid.

I really, really like those pictures BritneySpears. The sky is pretty amazing in them. And you have such an awesome bike too.

A slightly modified version of my IRO Angus day-to-day ride, in anticipation of hitting the Encino Velo this weekend.

But all the pictures where taken by a friend of mine (who is also the rider in the pictures). He is an amazing photographer, but as a rider he is out of control (in a bad way).

My toptube now looks like this:

thanks to him. And I have a hole the size of my fist in my helmet, thanks to his out of control bunnyhops.
But we are still friends.

Wounds heal and a bike is just a bike.

You can buy a nice frame, but you can't buy a good friend.
I am not happy, but I am far from being pissed.

Yeah if that was my bike, I would've dented his face

ImOnCrank 06-26-06 11:57 AM

It's easy, just be me and watch as your frames magically disintegrate.

i've had an account here forever and don't think i've posted once, so this seems like the right place to start. it's a converted gitane, size 61, relatively cheap components except the 20h racelite front wheel. it just needs white tires now.

look at you, internet.
sophie would be proud, she loves that bike (and sleeping in her chair).

Just spent a couple hours looking over this thread (slow night) some beautiful bikes you all have! Helping keep me calm while I wait for my new bike, Iro Jamie Roy, I'll add my pic in a month or so. Best looking group of bikes I ever seen, well done.
