Non-existant.

not to sound rude, but could someone give me a quick explanation why it is a good idea to cut your bars that short? Or maybe tell me about an advantage bars like that have over, say, ones twice as wide.

Rikardi151 02-23-07 04:29 PM

wait.. thought of one.. with that level stem, short bars may = barspins. However, most setups I see with REALLY short flat bars/risers dont let you do barspins anyway.

killsurfcity 02-23-07 04:30 PM

my guess would be no and none.

jeac 02-23-07 04:37 PM

i suppose there isn't any real reason to have real short handlebars

i have a set of bullhorns, a set of track drops. i swap handlebars once in awhile just for a change, and i had some scrapped drop bars off some road bike and i wanted to just try them out. I kind of like them they're fun.

I actually cant do bar spins cause of my fork and front wheel size.

riding in traffic is a breeze though

kalani79 02-23-07 04:40 PM

I want to try teh rizerz.

that was the only reason why I had short bars. mad barspins.

It's a conversion so i doubt that he can do a bar spin, esp with out a 650 front wheel.

Probably just for style, but i'd imagine he'll get longer ones after a 5 mile ride....

jeac 02-23-07 04:57 PM

i've done numerous 5+ mile rides on these handlebars.

trust me i understand how these bars are for the most part unpractical, i just wanted to test them out like i already said

If i regularly did like 10 miles rides or longer i wouldn't be riding with these bars

chill out d00dz

jacobpriest 02-23-07 05:03 PM

Yeah I didnt mean to come off like a dick if i did, I do half my **** for style.

jeac 02-23-07 05:05 PM

i thought that was the only reason to ride a fixed gear in the first place?

At that length it's more about safety then comfort. please make a thread when you crash because you can;t control your bike after hitting a pothole or sewer grate.

It's a lot more twitchy, but I wouldn't say unsafe. I rode pretty narrow flats for a while and that was a concern to me, but it wasn't really any different from riding on the tops of bullhorns or drops. Though I do really like having my wide ass risers sometimes since it is slightly more stable feeling and I can climb way better with them.

And while having narrow bars will make it easier to clear car mirrors and stuff, bars that are shoulder length or close to it help me judge distance between things better sometimes.

What is going on with Jeac's front wheel clearance? It looks like a stock fork and a road frame, which normally equals a fair bit of space between tire and fork. How is the clearance so tight/small?

jim-bob 02-23-07 08:58 PM

Huh? He's got a ton of clearance.
