your kid looks awesome

novielo 06-14-07 03:13 PM

thank you, he just turned 4 yo. he's not very tall (i'm 5'6 and my father was 5'4 and mom 4'11) but he runs fast!!! :-)

rob3rto 06-14-07 03:20 PM

The bike came out well too. Did you paint the frame yourself or have someone else do it?

novielo 06-14-07 03:29 PM

i did it myself, it's enamel but it doesn't hold very well. i did sand everything well (not to bare metal tought), 3 primer coats with sanding between the first 2 coat and 3 coat (again sanding 400grit between first 2) of paint, everything with the recommanded time between each coat.

i use a spray can adapter to use the can like a regular paint gun, one of the best 5$ spent!!

rob3rto 06-14-07 03:42 PM

Cool beans. I don't think I have skillz for painting, I admire when someone does it them self. Enjoy your new ride!

novielo 06-14-07 05:05 PM

rob, i sure already enjoy it!! my first language is french... what do you mean by cool beans??

It's a midwestern US thing... it just means cool or maybe cool and fun. Don't let my Long Beach, CA location fool you... I'm from Indiana. Home of Euchre, corn and cool beans! :D

Wait - maybe it has something to do with soybeans... :p

novielo 06-14-07 08:26 PM

polaris, thanks for the beansification!! it's much clearer now :D

I just inherited a CF specialized allez, so I decided to make that my geared bike and re-convert my miyata 512 with various parts that I have been swapping between different projects.

I'm finally done with this guy. Should I take off the back brake? I don't use it since I ride it fixed all the time, but I do have a freewheel on the other side.

trons 06-15-07 11:33 AM

keep it but put on aero levers...

cc700 06-15-07 11:37 AM

yeah either lose it and the freewheel or put on aerolevers...

nakedsushi 06-15-07 11:56 AM

I took my aero levers off and replaced them with cyclocross ones b/c I can't reach the aero ones while on the hoods. Yay for small hands.

The crankset says Takagi's on it, it's from a Tiger my friend owned. I took off the other chainring and guard, then sprayed the chainring black (which is holding up nicely).

cane creek scr5-c you can keep the inlines and you'll get used to the reach.

There is no good reason to take the brake off.
