When people say they're upgrading to "better parts," did you ever notice that they usually mean "trendier parts"?

well they also mean "more expensive parts" usually. and of course the labour theory of value tells us that the more expensive a product is, the more labor went into it, therefore the better it is.

In modern economics (and society), "more expensive" ≠ "better"

I would argue that Toshi double straps are better than less expensive alternatives.
|
better than stock stuff on pistas, fujis, and khs flites,
toshis are better than less expensive straps, mks pedals are cheap and tuff, and deep vs love them or hate them are strong as hell for banging around on the street. is there other options yes. but yes they are upgrades. so yes I guess I am implying that |
my fixed gear
http://oldskaters.com/bikes/dave600x450.jpg singlespeed http://oldskaters.com/bikes/kabuki600x450.jpg both are now well ridden (ridden well?) and generally less awkward looking, but no pics alas |

oldskaters, i like your fixed very much, very clean and simple. it looks like you have crank brothers pedals, am i right? i bought some of their stainless eggbeaters recently and one of the spindles is defective. their sending me a new one but since then i have heard many malfunction stories. how have they been treating you?

pricey saddle. Aspide Composite would be a thief magnet, or do you take it into the building?

Yes, the pedals are the MXR's - the cleanest looking I think, like that they are without wrench flats (and cheap) - I've had no problems with them, they've spun maybe 5-600km so far, I have had problems with the Smarty's that I use on another bike, cap fell off without warning and the outboard bearings all fell out, but crankbrothers are warranty'ing them and have been super helpful and friendly so far... |

fixed: Nitto noodle's (46's) wrapped in Soma thick 'n' zesty camo tape with Soma locking end caps singlespeed: swept back risers from a Peugeot Campus bike and Oury's stem and bar heights and angles on both are all a little lower, shorter, straighter and more comfortable these days and the singlespeed is also running 700's now... |
