So because a lot of people like those lugs that means they must be good looking to everyone? I think they are hideous. Also, many great track bikes didn't use those lugs. More high end track bikes are built with normal or no lugs than those which are built w/ nervex lugs. Besides, even if every good track bike used those lugs they would still be hideous to me.

Nothing wrong with not liking lugged frames. Lugged frames, however, both generally require a good deal more work and create a more pleasing, complex shape than a TIG-welded frame. (Fillet-brazed frames are purely gorgeous, but are also rarer.)
Once the builder has gone through the meticulous filing, cutting, fitting, brazing, more filing, thinning, more filing process and he or she has done a good job of it, you something very special on your hands, that someone spent a lot of time on. Not only that, it's very easy to screw up, resulting in something that's functional, but ugly. (Look at some of some Peugeot frames that are made with no artistry, but are nearly indestructible.)

99% of the time I prefer simple lugs over all other variations. Curlicues and anything ornate just irritate the hell out of me. Can't get into it. Give me simple pointed lugs, or maybe webbed if I'm feeling kinky.

Sweet. I love old ads. A Super Record hubset on GP4 rims makes for a pretty heavy-duty wheel.

The paintjob is what is so bad about that frame. The orange just jumps out too much and that stem only makes it worse. Those lugs with an all blue frame with a lighter blue luglining would look really nice or even just an all blue frame.

maybe a clean weld looks like a stack of quarters. A weld can still hold up just as well and not be as pretty.

You sure? Since 1997 he's never had more than one model made of aluminum in his lineup. The same goes with lugged frames. He builds a lugged frame as a tribute to his teacher, but his best frames are all TIG'ed steel.

Erggg, you're totally right, not sure what I was thinking about Pegoretti, my apologies.
I actually own a Steelman, and once the paint is over it, those welds are so smooth you'd never know, that's why I was saying I'd want better from an expert.

term I always heard growing up from welder/fabricators was, "like a stack of nickels".
"best looking" TIG welds I have seen so far are from Ted Wojcik.
my Steelman frame welds are very nice also.

Actually, if I had the time off from work, I'd go for the 400+ mile round trip to Ren-Fest...
I guess it is a personal thing, but hand-made bikes like the Waterfords I posted are 100x cooler than any mass produced Taiwanese bike out there.*

Sad in a way, but do remember: we are lucky to have around what few female posters actually frequent this board. I can look up pinup (and worse) any time I like; maintaining a female presence on SSFG is a bit trickier. I'd rather not alienate anyone.
