Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Today I:

Today I actually treated myself to calm ride around town after my therapy. Hate therapy. Now I'm at a coffee shop with my over priced latte, like a bowsss. I saw a guy riding around on one of my rental bikes and wanted to tell at him for riding like an idiot. Oh well
I put these things here instead of keepin them to myself to posting on Facebook. Hai everybody.

Today I rode my Kagero for the first time in a while. I think I might sell it.

Heh. $180 and he threw in the seatpost. I'm gonna spend this summer building me a CX bike. Thinking a 1x9, I never use the different chainrings anyway.

Today I spent most of the day at the pump track after getting a new brake rotor for the dmr.

I forgot to add - while out riding said Kagero today, a local cop I'm friends with clocked me with his radar gun going 31 on a flat.

Today was my first day on the bike since my spill last week.

Pulled a muscle in my shoulder/clavicle area attempting to sprint, but it feels BETTER now.

Bike gods trolled me and I got a flat.

Also got a KOM

I knew you were going to. Did you hit Mars when you were up there? If so, you should've told me. I'm dying for some New Glarus. Anyhow, super jelly about the bike.

Today, I worked. Way too much. Still working, actually.

Nice.

Hit 29 today a few times as I was racing buses which is not bad for such an old gimp.

Today, I got my first Strava KOM. https://app.strava.com/segments/broadway-foster-to-granville-1308722 I was at 3:54 over the 1.2 mile run, but that wasn't good enough, so tonight I hauled ass and shaved thirty seconds off. I almost broke 30 a couple times, but maxed out at 29.6 mph. I'm kind of proud of myself.

The Cheese Castle closes at 7 on weekdays (booo) so I would have had to haul ass to get up there in time, and with rush hour holy-****-lets-get-out-of-the-city-before-NATO-summit traffic, might still not have made it. I need to remember how close it is and that I have a car and go up there more often. New Glarus for lyfe, yo.

I ride a 2012 Fuji Betsy. When the freewheel broke, my husband flipped the hub. Yesterday, he upgraded the brake and it was a significant improvement. Last night, we took the kids in two trailers and our oldest son out on the Thursday night ride. Our friend went with us, which turned out to be a good thing.

On the last few miles home, our son lost control of his bike. I was following him and had no time to react. Everything went in slow motion as I saw him flop onto his stomach in front of me. I couldn't react quick enough with the trailer and so I did the only thing that made no sense at all:

I let go of the handlebars.

My front wheel rode up onto his BMX, and I dove over him and landed on the street. I was pretty dazed and couldn't feel my leg.

Santaria and his friend dropped their bikes immediately and sprinted back to get us out of the road. We were banged up but able to get to the side of the road and just sit there recovering for a few moments.

My son hit his face (he was wearing a helmet) and somehow walked away without a bruise or bump to show for it.

The pictures above are of my right leg about 20 minutes after the accident and then this morning. Trust me, my legs are way sexier than they look without all the bruising and swelling. I'm sore as hell, but nothing is broken.

My husband said "Well, that's my girl. She's more man than most people I know, she got right back on the bike."

The only thing that would have made the night more entertaining would have been beer and mud.
And I still am sexy as hell.
