My Garmin said I went 89.9mph last night.

Computer said it, must be right.

Ya.

Strava profile does not inspire confidence in that speed.

Operation: Dark Lord Ice Cream was mostly a success. No ice cream machine so it's slightly crystallized. Milkshakes to the rescue.

Spoonrobot 06-26-12 04:56 PM

No ice cream machine? What kind of gypsy restaurant do you work at?

You can get a decent White Mountain unit for like $300.

ThermionicScott 06-26-12 04:57 PM

Today I got honked at on the ride home (rare in my area). They were short, spaced-out beeps, so at first I thought the guy was trying to indicate something. It was probably displeasure since I got in front of him at the intersection and then the headwind kept me under 20 MPH... :notamused:

and yet your average was still 8.9!

Nagrom_ 06-26-12 05:06 PM

Today I finished that BB overhaul, after losing a bearing. Buttery.

I'm so pro.

Yaaaaaaa right Jandro, That chart looks shopped, I can tell by the pixels.

That's a nice sprint though.

That means I'm up there too. We can easily take on Cavendish now Jandro. You want to call HTC Highroad, or should I?

Edit: I'm an idiot, Cavs is on Sky now isn't he?

Strava iPhone App
40mph @ 0watts. Seems legit. Haha

Looks like your GPS wasn't locking properly that lap. When you compare your previous laps that had better connectivity, they are much smoother and have 2x the data points (7 vs 13+) in that same ~30sec timeframe. The iPhone (and android app) are notorious for ****ty/spiky data. Your KOM lap (http://app.strava.com/rides/11811130#203908774) is much more accurate in terms of datapoint density. You maybe hit a max of around 24mph on the slight downhill portion of the lap.

HAHAHA. Winner. You are redeemed.

while were on the subject of the craptasticness of the iphone gps, would i be able to count on a dedicated gps like a garmin to give me accurate results all the time, or am i still gonna have to scrutinize what it tells me?

i want one simply for the sake of being able to use my phone on long rides and still track my rides, but i would expect a ~$300 gadget to give me some reliable data

My Garmin 500 feels pretty accurate. I know Jandro uses an 800.

For speed, if you use a magnet and sensor, then it'll be MUCH more accurate than GPS. I like the Garmins because it tracks my route too, so I can show off to my friends (duh).

Heh, I'm the first person that's ever worked here that knows how to make ice cream, so why would they have one? We will be getting one though.

Today I had a fun 42 miles. Despite pinch flatting, still managed a decent avg speed.

Nagrom_ 06-26-12 07:40 PM

Rode my bike today. To Home Depot, and to two bike shops. The first was lame as always, but the second was much nicer than I had remembered.

jdgesus 06-26-12 08:10 PM

One of the more enjoyable activities in life. Especially when riding. Gives you a speed boost.
