Guys like you and I will likely never be competitive at shorter events on the track, esp. individual timed ones like the f200.

However endurance races (points, scratch, madison etc...) will favor guys who are more efficient like you and I.
Remember that Mark Cavendish used to be a world champ on the track as an endurance guy, not a sprinter.
IIRC him and Wiggins won the worlds madison together.

You're not going to see Chris Hoy win a world-champ level points race, or probably even finish with the field.
On the flip side of the coin, guys like you and me will never, ever be able to compete with the likes of Hoy and our own Carleton in like, a kilo, for example.

Different strokes.

and for the record im 5'9 and 145-155 depending on the time of year and amount of beer im drinking.
right now im probably like ~153 or so as I'm a little burnt from racing too much in the spring and from getting drunk with my coworkers more than usual

Good points all around. Like you, from the sounds of it, I am an endurance rider. I typically find myself, after 50+ miles, being able to just ride people off my wheel. I can get into a rhythm and just keep going. I'm really working on interval training atm so I can set myself up to have something toward the end. I'm not a sprinter but I like to save some gas for end and pretend I am; especially if it's an uphill effort. Gotta attack on the hills, right?

One more beginner session and I can start doing races. At my velodrome 4 races + petition = upgrade to cat 4. Then I can get a feel for all the different events and chose the ones that suit me.

Thanks for the encouragement and sage words!

I was so damn tired from driving up there. Sunday I sat around like a fatty and slept all day. I'm going to make a point to go up again but have more than a few days up there.

I don't think I'll ever be super competitive (without extremely focused training) on the track (5'8 145lb) but it's fun as hell.

Who? Does he come out often? His name doesn't ring a bell.

Massive black dude with a really small voice. Think: Mike Tyson. Instructor seemed to know him pretty well.

I am, as pointed out earlier in this thread.

Today I didn't ride my bike, drank a few beers, and now I'm eating chili.

I just found out that my boss, after covering one of the cooks and thereby working a double because she didn't want to call me in since I was moving, got fired as she went to put in her two weeks notice. I knew she was potentially leaving because she had a great offer on the table, but man, I didn't expect it to be this quick. Apparently, the owners (***holes, the both of them) decided to "clean the kitchen up." I have a feeling that this means I am either the new Executive Chef (awesome pay raise, tons more stress) or I'm unemployed. Since the other tab I have open is Craigslist, I guess one would say that I have a feeling it's the latter.

cc700 07-24-12 02:19 AM

that sounds like such high stress all the time man, i know you'll land on your feet no matter what but in the mean time take care of yourself.

after mountain bike, i indian fooded, then i cat napped, then i cereal'd, then i hills on night rode, then i mac n pork n cheesed.

successful day off for sure.

LL, the SE Lager may not be popular, but I'll be damned if it isn't a good bike.

Only thing I kinda don't like is the color of mine, because it's doodoo brown, but it helps prevent theft (I think). And if I think about it like a brown ale color... then I kinda don't mind it so much. Heh.
And I'm converting all the silver components to black anyway, which I'll dig much more.
One day I'll eventually get a different frame, once I learn/ride enough to know exactly what I want. Then I'll transfer all my upgraded components over, etc.

But yes agreed, the older Lager like we have - solid bike.
SE seems to have gone off the deep end lately, making BigShotBikes basically. Not sure what that's all about.

RGNY 07-24-12 06:00 AM

called in to work for the first time in years. had a microburst centered about a block away. trees and lines down all over and my porch furniture was about 100 yards away. power was only out for 7 hours (the repair crew guys were awesome), but people were standing around in the street in the middle of the night wondering "what shall we do?". be eaten by zombies, obviously...

getting dark again, but supposed to dry out later. will go for a ride and check out the extent of the damage. now...zzzzzzz.......

Zombies are a problem in your area. They turned Griffiss AFB into the big zombie lab didn't they? I guess they are letting some out to see what will happen.

heh. Griffiss is now the Republic of Woodchuckistan. place is overrun. i cut through the base to get into Rome and you can count around 50 every time.

if there was a zombie lab, there would at least be outside funds coming into the area..... :( :)

This is the bike my buddy won on Saturday at the Tour de Fat. Just a big clunky cruiser but I dig the colors and vibe.

FakeFuji 07-24-12 06:53 AM

They might not be the most efficient way to get around but if you don't smile when you get out of the saddle and sprint on a cruiser there's gotta be something wrong, I was working on my sqrlz old Schwinn cruiser and when I was done and putting its through it's paces I really liked the supple ride and the way it felt bunny hopping it over a some tree roots. I am in search of an older hard tail mountain bike to ss and make into my ride with sqrl bike

Too lazy to look.

TL;DR I called out LessonLearned and some others for their use of this thread as a giant IRC chat window and someone attempted to call me out for my non-original content citing that most of my posts were: Rapha, Instagram pics and being a roadie. Not too off the mark, really but at least the photos are pretty (IMO) and relevant to the forum/thread, whereas the stuff I was talking about had to do with LL calling people fatties, others getting angry at him, and other such things.

Person who called me out made a typo, which, as we all know, makes your point, however reasoned and thoughtful, completely invalid. So, I think by internet rules, I win.

Internet forumz r srs bznz.

PS- Jandro, who the **** made you king of this thread? Why do you feel that you know exactly what this thread should be like? Have you read the first post and the first page? It's the same stuff there as it is now.

IMO this thread isn't exactly billed as a strictly bike talk thread, and more of a light "what did you do today" convo starter. But I think it's open to interpretation, and I certainly don't get my undies in a wad if a couple users take up a page or so with a little back & forth.

FakeFuji 07-24-12 01:06 PM

Aaaaaaaand add LL to ignore list

Spoonrobot 07-24-12 01:07 PM

Today, in searching for a 700c wheel, I found out there is a new kind of Craigslist spam that just sends you emails with self-shots from random chicks as the attachments.

Deeply saddened by this.

(love how he felt the need to tell me about it instead of just doing it)

yummygooey 07-24-12 01:11 PM

LL, you're still a newbie here compared to the people you have been arguing with (jandro and cc700). Take it easy man.
