Should I lower my 46/17 gearing if I'm ****ing exhausted after a ride like this?

I'd probably just try to get used to it. I'm just a hair lower @ 43x16 at the moment and would really start disliking downhills if I went any lower. There's only one hill I know of in town that's a walker for me.

Woah, I didn't look at the elevation profile before I answered. You should ride more and after a couple of months get a 50T chainring

Drink a glass of concrete and HTFU.

Seriously, it's hard for us to know. If you're not used to riding fixed, it's pretty intense but you get used to that. Just ride more and don't push it too hard.

Should I get a bolt on cog for my 29er? I haven't had a fixed gear in a year now and I don't see myself having the money to get the one I want any time soon. Would it be worth buying a cog and some pedal straps just to kick around fgfs style for a while?

And I checked today.... My dawes can barspin.

Sounds like a fun experiment. The only reason I wouldn't is because I hate messing with brakes.

i have one, you can borrow it. there was nothing more terrible feeling than my karate monkey fixed.
might be OK in teh snow for ultimate "know that feel" but. otherwise. :/

I don't know what to do.

Sell Specialized Langster frameset for $210 (already have multiple buyers), or trade for a 2013 Seafoam green Leader 725 frame/fork/headset and sell that...

Could I get more money out of the 725? It's in tip-top shape too.

Yes, a leader will certainly garner more steetcred aka dollars but does the frameset fit you in the first place? In the scenario that it doesn't sell.

Yes it does fit. But I think it'll almost surely sell; there are lots of fixie kids here in LA looking for Leaders haha.

My other question is, how much could I get out of it?

edit: looks like I'll be able to get $220 out of the Langster.

Should I build an around town bike (28c, fenders, fixed possibly conversion) or just swap platforms on my road bike?

Alright, thanks guys. I've been riding fixed for about 2-3 weeks now coming from a beat-up 3-speed with which I never did much more than 15 km/h. I'm currently averaging 25 so I'll just keep on going.


I bought some Chrome clipless compatible in the sale last month and I'm currently reviewing pedal options, looking at Time pedals mainly because that will allow me to ride my dad's 10 speed without having to switch cleats / not be able to clip in. Are these a good deal, I've already bargained the price down to 35 but noticed the left cleat appears to be worn out, so if I have to buy new cleats soon I might as well buy new ones immediately?

Looks like a pretty good deal, and the cleats don't look that badly worn. You could also get the basic ATAC Aliums new for 50USD here, but I don't know what shipping would cost you.

I wouldnt suggest the Time pedals for first clipless. Shimano cleats are more forgiving for figuring out your cleat adjustments
