I have a 722ts build coming in gold. Should I build it with black components or silver? I can't decide... I could only really find builds online with gold and silver:

Found one with black. I'd have a gold fork instead of a black one though.

Jaytron,

It's easier to build in black these days because that's the trend. More parts are available. Silver can be a pain in the butt depending on what parts you're after. What I would do is sit down and build up the bike on paper, then go try to find the parts and see what it ends up costing you. Chances are you had to make compromises with the silver.

Also, that photo of the silver build you provided is a very high key shot. It's misleading, and good photography. Probably not the greatest example for setting expectations.

I think 722's look classy with silver. However, I think those deep silver rims are gross. Here's how Scrod built his up:

I like. I guess I could do mostly silver, with black bar tape/seat as well. I doubt I'd do risers though.

Jaytron, I think the gold/silver components make it looks kind of... classy like an older, restored bike, whereas the gold/black component looks more... utilitarian and "cool" looking. I'd go with black personally, as you can see by my taste. Also, I gotta agree with homebrewk; I don't care for deep silver/polished rims either. On the other hand, silver components will show wear less than black components because the only color under the silver is silver. When you scuff/scrape a black component, you now have a big silver scrape on your expensive black component. Bums my **** out.

facing a similar dilemma to jaytron...

have a beanroller (boston baked beans maroon colored steamroller) frameset that i've been saving for a while. can no longer resist all the black fri/cyber mon sales, but am ambivalent whether to buy silver or black bits to finish it.

i already have (& want to use) black headset, seatpost collar, front caliper & lever, & a silver crankset & chainring.

am definitely going with a riser/flat bar...

so should i buy a carbon fiber handlebar with silver stem & seatpost or a polished bar with carbon stem & seatpost?

wheelset comes last, god knows how long it will take me to decide on that

thanx in advance for your suggestions...

btw, someone once posted a link to a site where you can graphically "build your bike" with all different colors & types of components to get an idea how your planned build should look. anyone around here still got that link?

I think bikes with subtle (not loud or vibrant) colors look better built around black components. Gives it more contrast and makes the frame color stand out more.

I have to agree. Here's a good example:

Not sure if it's what you're talking about but a quick google search led me to this (requires flash). Click an icon to add a part, click the same icon to remove it (took me a while to figure that last part out)

I'm building up a KHS Aero, but it is currently lacking a fork.

Should I:

OR,

OR,

I think black or white would look good, but I was hoping to go threaded vs threadless... Also, not sure if that KHS 100 is the proper rake to follow (37.5mm claimed rake) but the All city is 30mm, and the scrod-fork is 41mm

i'm on velocity b43 rims. thinking of changing wheelsets to the mavic ellipses. also looking at the miche pistards (not as keen on these as i have an all black setup and the spokes and hubs on this wheelset are silver).

any opinions on this? i mostly just ride around town, occasionally for a slightly farther distance with friends on the weekends.

They're heavy. You'll be fine. If you think it'll make you happy do it!

b43.. getting a bit tired of the deep dish.. thought of going for a slightly subtler look and also to get a weight reduction at the same time.

read up a bit and the Mavic seem ok for the money.. tried looking for Reynolds Recons but no luck.. are there other options out there i haven't considered yet?

If you don't mind having to put something together that doesn't come stock I recommend mavic open pro's to miche or some equivalent hub with some nice spokes. light and strong

If you are doing anything besides competitive racing on this bike, everything you are looking at is overkill. In this case, you should spend your money whatever way you want.

Yes, Park is (most of the time) a brand you can trust. Get it or I will!

Should I remove the Alexrim stickers on my rims? I've been keeping them on there because the red accents tie the red on my saddle in a little better with the rest of the bike since the only other red is the headbadge. They're just peeling up a little on the edges now and I don't know whether to peel them off or try to preserve them. Link to pedalroom for pics in my sig.
