Thanks for coming back with that. Pasela TGs are one of my favorite tires and that pretty much sums them up perfectly.

What psi were you running?

For the first ride, I figured I'd go with the stock max, 105 and see how it felt. Tomorrow, I'm going to try 110, and see how they roll. At 105, they have a fair amount of give if I squeeze them, so I figure I can go up a bit to roll faster, but still be pretty comfortable without going beyond the capability of the sidewalls..

You'd mentioned inflating a bit over the recommended psi. How high do you go?

Should I just throw caution to the wind and go for my quad metric century attempt on Sunday?

I agree with you in principle; when I'm on the track bike I bring my trixie and _maybe_ my park allen wrench mini-set. When I'm on the mountain bike or touring, however, it's nice having a compact, everything-but-the-kitchen-sink tool for field repairs. Also, when you're doing a shakedown ride and it seems like every little thing needs a minor adjustment (like handlebar angle), having a complete set of tools is really handy.

To my minor embarrassment, I've been referred to as Mr. Boy Scout (who has actually never been in the Boy Scouts). I can be super paranoid and over prepared about some things, and carrying bike tools while riding is one of them, for better or for worse. The best thing I've done so far is get a saddle bag, it does take away from the bike aesthetically, but good thing I'm not trying to impress Mr. Johnny Fixed gear coming from the opposite direction (not implying anything here for peeps who keep their bike minimal because I try to do that too).

And now that I have one, I put everything in there: tube, levers, Trixie AND the multi-tool, co2, PDW shiny object, banana, granola bar, hell I even carry my KS bead jack.

I can't comprehend these kids riding around with nothing. In the city makes sense because of public transportation and LBS. But on open roads? Asking for trouble.

End brool story.

I typically keep the front at 120 and the rear around 125-130.

wow, that high psi for a 28c tire is kind of abnormal isn't it?

My Pasela TGs are 23c.

Yep, that's high. But I didn't realize your's were 23's. I'm guessing with my 28's rated for 105, I probably wouldn't want to push it that high...

The title of the video is a little misleading. More like cat strapped to a bike rack, there's no sitting involved.

Scrodzilla 08-03-12 01:15 PM

Yeah, I don't dig that.

That's a great way to put it. If yours only measured 1mm under the rated size, it sounds like Panaracer is making the TGs more true-to-size these days. :thumb:

So, second ride today on the Pasela TG 28's. Same urban route, but I ran both tires at about 112psi (used a Road Morph to pump, and the gauge doesn't get that specific, but i was a little below 8 Bar). This is up from yesterday when I used the printed max of 105psi. I have to say, that for these tires and my weight (about 200, plus messenger bag, heavy lock, and water), 112 seems to be the magic number. Yesterday's ride was great, but just a few psi made today's ride even better. And I don't think an overinflation of 6.6% will suddenly make the tires blow up. The tires were more responsive, but in no way felt harsh. They still soaked up road texture better than the Durano Plus's, yet rolled really well. As with yesterday's ride, I was about 1mph above my average. Probably no single reason for this, but I guess I can chalk this up to a combination of better rolling resistance combined with more comfort. The comfort makes it easier to plow through rough streets at greater speed, and a less jarring ride makes me less fatigued.

If I magically lose 30 pounds, going back down to 105psi might make sense, but for now the 110-112 neighborhood is perfect.

So, I'd say I'm sold on these tires, and that concludes my extended review.

PS: Panaracer, you're welcome for the good review, and you may now start sending me free samples and royalty checks.

Hey Scrod,
I have a quick question. My new frame (2009 Fuji Track) says that the seat clamp is 28.6 but it doesnt mention the seat post size. While I was for a seatpost I read that the size wouldnt actually be 28.6 but around 27.2 because of the wall thickness. Basically what size seatpost does my bike need? Thanks haha

Heres a link to the bike: http://2009.fujibikes.com/Specialty/Track/Track.aspx

(Dwight Schrute) False, it does. Keep scrolling down on that page and look at the very last line of the geometry chart: 27.2.

Notscrod.

Seriously? You don't have a floor pump?

112 on a Road Morph does not sound like fun. Especially if that's your every day pump.

No, my floor pump got mangled in the truck last time I moved, and the Road Morph worked so well I never bothered to replace. Never really found it that hard. When I replaced the tires, I got them from 0psi to 105psi in a couple of minutes each. I don't want to claim to be some sort of superman, but I've got pretty good upper body strength, and it's not a big deal for me. Usually, I can top the tires off in less than 20-30 seconds each every few days.

I just got a Lezyne Pressure Drive to carry with me because I wanted something smaller for the road, and for now, I'm happy to just leave the Road Morph as my home pump.

Yo, what kind of bag does your sqrl (Angie) use?

Scrodzilla 08-06-12 06:29 PM

I like how you put her name in quotes, like I wouldn't know who you were talking about

She's got a small Timbuk2 bag that she's had for a million years, a Blick's Pica (that looks way better than it performs) for when she's only carrying a few small things and a Seagull Black Bag (which rules but is enormous).

My sqrl's bag is way too dorky, need to get her a bag. LOL

I must be doing something wrong then. When I use it to get my friend's tires to 60 psi the pump gets HOT to the touch. I was originally content with the Road Morph until I got a floor pump. Floor pump is so much easier, I can't even imagine not having it.

Just so you know, we've got a bunch of bags - in three sizes - made just for us by Seagull on the way. ;)
