Hey scrod, curious as to what your thoughts are on biopace/ovaltech chainrings?

I have a Biopace MTB and it's like pedaling squares. Plus whenever you look down you think something went horribly wrong with your drivetrain.

So far my has fallen off once, I'm just not sure if it was entirely due to the chain ring. Although my chain line isn't perfectly straight either cause its a conversion.

It most likely has a lot to do with all three factors.

Hey Scrod,
I noticed your 722s are 58cm, but your Kagero is a 55cm. How do they compare? I'm 6'1" and normally ride 58s, but the top tube looks a little too long for me on the 58 Kagero, but I'm worried the seat tube might be too short on the 55.
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving.

Dear Scrod,
How often do you wear a helmet?

I'm using that stuff right now on my touring bike. It felt like pedaling squares for all of the first 20 minutes and then I didnt notice it anymore.

It really depends on the type of riding I'm doing or where I'm going. Whenever I "commute" anywhere there's a lot of cars, I usually wear a helmet. There are a lot of places to ride around here without encountering much traffic at all and if I'm going for a more leisurely ride, I tend to leave it at home.

The smallest BP ring I have is 42T. Some of the smaller BP rings get way too biopaced for me. Little rings on MTBs I would switch out immediately.
Out of round rings have been around since WAY before Biopace and they will probably be around for ever.

yeah, the 28 ring is practically a square. I can still slightly feel it after riding biopace for a few weeks, but it doesnt bother me

Scrod,
Back on the Oury grip topic... I initially installed mine with soapy water and found they were very slippery after a couple days. I removed, cleaned, and reinstalled with WD-40, but on both sides, the 1/4 toward the outermost part of the bars was still pretty slippery on the bars, although the rest was solid. I just uninstalled and reinstalled using very little WD-40, but am just wondering if the sloppy outer ends is something I'm gonna have to deal with or if there is some trick to avoid this.
Thanks!

I've never had that trouble using WD40. Did you make sure all the soapy water was gone before reinstalling them and did you poke holes in the ends of your grips to let out the air?
#1471
Yes on both. My first WD40 install, I just sprayed in the end of the grip, probably got a fair amount dispersed through the grip. This time, I used the straw just to get some on the outer edge, which would have spread as I slid the grip on. About how much do you use/what is your technique?

Our family doesn't celebrate "Thanksgiving" but we did round up some relatives and friends for dinner and drinks. Good times were had.
Now Angie is preparing herself to go out and take photos of people camped out waiting for Best Buy to open, then to a few other places to for pics of stupid shoppers once the stores all open at midnight and she's not very stoked about it (for those who don't know, she's a news photographer).
How about you, man?

I'm also ready to order from RG if you didn't get my PM, just to let you know ahead of time. Also, I'm probably going to look for a new ASUS laptop to replace our old one.
