Please take my advice and let go of riding for a while - a month or more off the bike is probably smart.
Cycling will always be there. How long you are out of the game at this point is going to be largely contingent upon your recovery habits - don't go out and test your knee all the time. If it feels bad, test it next week with a <30 min flat ride.
I've been there - it sucks. In Dec 2009 I jacked my knee up real bad with a overuse injury that resulted in quadriceps tendonitis, which I still deal with but is under control. I was really bummed because I was putting in huge miles (~18-20 hr weeks, 3 week blocks) and was for sure the fittest of my life; I was going to totally kick ass in the 2010 racing season.

He told me no more centuries or attempts at racing for awhile. He said this weekend I could ease in gradually, like 10 miles or so, lots of spinning, no mashing. He also gave me some topical cream for inflammation and suggested icy/hot before I ride and ice afterwards.
Its killing me not to be able to ride, but I think I'll take the opportunity to try to get a couple of friends into riding. They'd like to ride but were always intimidated by my miles. If we started doing a few miles every week and build up gradually, I think they'll be ready for some longer distances when I'm finally ready for them myself.

on sunday my face made a date with the pavement. i spent the night in the neuro ICU and now i'm spending some time at home recovering from a substantial concussion. oh... did i mention MY FACE?!
i don't remember what happened. jdgesus saw most of it, he says he wishes he could unsee it... so it was probably bad. LOL. all i can say is that it could have been much much much worse.
my face tho...
nsfw/nsfbfssfg but i know a few of you have seen it on the 'grams.
no bikes for 2 months, says the doctor. just in time for the new bike i was in the middle of building up.

Bumstown though, the face is awful to get wrecked.

Dang, just looked at your photo. Heal fast, man! You'll be back in the saddle in no time.
I had a similar accident riding drunk a couple years ago and had to get the muscle in my eyebrow stitched back together. Such is life.

Sucks to hear that yummy! Get well soon!
+1 We have plenty of paper bags around.
Don't worry, I've seen worse heal up just fine, good as new. If I remember from the post how you look like thread, you have a lighter skin type so scars shouldn't be too much a problem anyhow... besides I know this from experience

if it makes you feel any better, a friend of mine this week fell down some stairs and hit her head on concrete - major concussion and staples in her scalp. at least you were doing something more than just walking when you got hurt.

I go in tomorrow for xrays, but the doc was pretty sure it was just inflamed and nothing serious. Whew!

he got too rad on his bike (curb cut jump). hit face and slid on face. its as bad and gross as you can imagine.
kid went limp. thought he was dead. raised his head a little bit, spit out a tooth (and blood) and passed back out for a bit.

Yummy, heal up. Stay positive and find something to do to keep you occupied while you heal up. I redid my bedroom while I was out of commission.
Today I returned from a pretty epic 5 days in Pennsylvania, one of the days included climbing Pa RT 183, climbing past a section of the Appalachian Trail and finishing at the Yuengling brewery in Pottsville. Also the inevitable happened and bought a fluid trainer.

(last night actually)...Lost control of my bike at probably 25 mph. Tore up my clothes and skin in several places and cracked my helmet in two places. Damn glad I had my helmet on. I had a little memory loss a few minutes afterwards, but head and neck CT were all clear. Definitely would've been worse without the helmet.
Thankful the driver behind me was paying attention and didn't run me over while I was down.
Limping a little, stiff and sore, and embarrassed. Riding no-handed at high speed while still getting used to fixed gear - a totally avoidable accident. Gonna slow it down a little and keep my hands on the bars as soon as my leg stops hurting.
