Sounds like a good ride. Congratulations.

This may be the hardest ride I have done. 60 was easy paced road from to/from the start point and the trail. Most of the 9000ft of climbing was on the dirt and it was sandy, loose, and rocky as hell. Talk about fish-tailing all day long climbing and descending. It wasn't 12 hours riding because there were stops, delays, mechanical break downs, and flats. I didn't flat but some guys had 9+ flats, insane. One of our guys wrecked a tire, luckily, early on and was able to get back the trail head.

I think the 46 was his max speed and the 96 was his resting heart rate. My max is around 41 going downhill. I need to find bigger hills.

hairnet 03-30-14 05:58 PM

There are places here I have reached 50. A friend that rides motorcycles has clocked triathletes on the same hills going close to 65. crazy

That was my maximum speed recorded during my ride. It was a sprint on a slight downhill with no wind, and I normally struggle to top 40, but today I was feeling really good, so I hit my best time this year. I was on my geared bike in a 52 x 11. The photo showing the heart rate was taken right after I had returned home and my last mile is always an easy cooldown, but my resting heart rate is much lower, about 60 bpm. My max heart rate at the end of the sprint was 150 bpm, which is my Zone 5 max, and it took me about 15 seconds for it to drop back to Zone 3. During the rest of the ride, my heart rate was well inside Zone 3, which means that basically it was just a good cardio ride with one fun sprint for internet credit points.

I remained unimpressed until I remembered you Americans are still on that crazy Imperial distance measuring system. Kudos.

Nagrom_ 03-30-14 09:14 PM

I'll keep my imperial system as well as my guns.

Damn Canadians.

Huffandstuff 03-30-14 09:24 PM

Black Dahlia, gorguts and carcass tonight. #bestnightever

I also realized my old trek is perfect for a lock up bike downtown because it blends in so well with the homeless ones.

Technically the only advantage you have over us is your warm weather, but you are helping take care of that problem too. Another few years and I'll be living in endless summer, thanks to global warming.

Except that you'll also be underwater.

Heh. There is a lot of area lower than me that will go first. I live in a spot with adequate elevation. I'm looking forward to the day that I get 'waterfront' property!

I love guns :(

"freedom" is such a messy word. But guns and debt, yeah we have those too.

Just an absolute **** show the whole day. Kudos to Trimble and co. for managing to keep the event running.

Apparently there was a real nasty crash involving the women's race that required an ambulance clearing and a restart. For the men's, there was a 15-20 person pile up in the first chicane like 10 seconds into the race. I barely got by that, starting bridging up, and then this big guy passed me on the straight right after the hairpin. He threw a shoulder and was just too close to me. Neither of us went down, and I don't really know what happened to his bike, but we were both done. That was on the fourth ****ing lap.

Sorry for the CSB, but I am still pretty pumped about it, even with all the things that happened.

Nagrom_ 03-31-14 12:37 AM

That race is pretty dumb.

Pretty sure someone will actually have to die for them to stop running it.

GMJ 03-31-14 07:25 AM

I agree and I do not doubt it. I've heard that one of Kovalcik's problems with it is that the finish is right after the hairpin. It is super dangerous and the whole race has plenty of potential to dish out career and life changing injuries.

I still think its worth it and I am going to do it again next year.

That's the spirit ! Keep doing something really risky until you get badly hurt.

Yeah.

TMonk 03-31-14 08:31 AM

I don't do Dana Point GP anymore for the same reason.

Last year there was like 6 crashes in the 3's. That race is a lot of fun but not worth it...

How was Gorguts? Is Longstreth still drumming for them?

They were awesome, new drummer but he tore it up too. Carcass did like a two hour set and highlight of the night was some kid in the pit during black Dahlia thought he could throw out some ninja kicks but got body checked hard and no one else tried for the rest of the night.

I don't listen to a ton of metal anymore but I'd love to see BDM live

Today I:

32 miles on the road, that puts me over 1000 miles for the year so far. That is short of my goal, but I'm hoping the weather will keep getting better and I can make up the difference.

Cancelled my cell phone service. The phone has been powered off for the past two weeks as a test, not missing it.
