to me it sounds like the exact opposite of "not doing **** to your bike" but to each his own

the real question here is that tshirt made of cotton?

TMonk 01-04-17 03:08 PM

its a few min every few hundred miles, which admittedly is probably the same that I spend applying lube and cleaning the chain in that time period. i guess i just like it cause its clean

and yes the t shirt is cotton :)

TMonk is doing it all wrong. When waxing a chain it is critical to use a hydrophobic fabric. He's wasting a lot of wax.

SquidPuppet 01-04-17 03:41 PM

But seriously.........

Do you clean the chain first? How do you make sure the old muck doesn't blend with the fresh wax?

Use synthetic wax. Problem solved.

Seriously, I was wondering about cleaning the chain prior as well. Using Boesheild T9, wax based, and it does keep the chain very clean. My guess is that with parrafin it only has to be cleaned the first time.

TMonk 01-04-17 05:50 PM

I started with a new chain and let it soak in degreaser for a while to remove the factory lube.

After that you're correct @TimothyH, no more cleaning required. I hate cleaning my bike.

johnnytheboy 01-04-17 06:01 PM

that's not even lube. it's packing grease..!

TMonk 01-04-17 06:22 PM

Mumonkan 01-05-17 11:04 AM

apparently the rear brake on my commuter bike freezes when the air is below zero.
gonna have to do some modifications

Scrodzilla 01-05-17 11:14 AM

The first modification I would do is move somewhere warmer.

Mumonkan 01-05-17 11:41 AM

i guess that would technically be a modification lol

zero celcius to clarify, not that it really matters at that point tho

Carcosa 01-05-17 02:34 PM

Moving somewhere warmer is one of the best things I've ever done.

That said, we are getting snow this weekend for probably the only time this year. Everyone is panicking. I can't wait.

Unrelated; Today I bought a bike with someone else's money. Now if I only got to keep it.

So, you guys think $130 is fair? It's hard to find bikes that size which aren't 50lb gas pipe frames and in decent condition. I like the color too.

Sweet 25" Araya on eBay right now. Local Pickup only in Wisco. Might be able to find a facilitator in C&V though.

On New Years day I tagged along on an all day BMX ride. Had to borrow a though and it was a tad small.

Have you heard he's started a bicycle brand? http://genuinebicycleproducts.com

motrheadsroadie 01-05-17 06:45 PM

oh yeah! hes been doin the GBP bmx/cruiser/klunker thing for a few years now. its not really my style of bike but i still love seeing all the updates of stuff hes building on his flickr.

hairnet 01-05-17 07:06 PM

I have known about Klunker bikes for a long time but I had no idea anybody was still riding them. See his bikes in action sparked some enthusiasm and I gotta get on one. Now to find old Schwinn cruiser to give new life.

He has been hosting lots of rides around the valley lately and posting long term calenders. Choppercobras is gone, over, after 15 years, so he has putting energy into lots of other things.

cali_axela 01-05-17 07:11 PM

Today I'm seriously tempted to get in on those sexy new Retrogression Tooth & Nail kits, even though I really don't need another kit. Excellent work, Kyle and Scrod!
