At 57 years old I also bought a fixie recently. It's a commodity Bianchi Pista track bike, to which I had a front brake added (it's a lot of fun, but I'm not ready to do skid stops in downtown Atlanta).

Yes I rode today.

Lately I've been doing relatively short rides (~10 miles) but attacking very steep hills. I'm trying to get my legs ready for a couple of mountain centuries in the coming year. I did another one today, around southeast Atlanta. When I can do the route with something approaching comfort I'm going to double the distance.

Got my new pedals today and went for a ride, no more tick, tick, tick LOL. I had a great ride 23.27 miles. Not much wind either way. I'm trying to think of a new goal, the hour a day ride is not so much of a chore as it was when I first started riding again a few weeks ago. Feeling better in the saddle now...

Yes, I rode today. Still doing hill training, so I did my usual ride in southeast Atlanta (East Atlanta, Ormewood Park, Grant Park) hitting the hills around here.

Bailed on the am shop ride fri & sat and there is no way I am strong enough for the sun centuries yet. I might go out later for a little spin, but then again I've riden to the shop everyday this week and that's 13-15 round trip.

This weeks total... just below 150. That is more in one week than I've done on a monthly average over the last 2 years. *takes a bow* lol

[quote=kjc9640;8892112]Met my new girlfriend on todays ride, she is a little younger than I am and doesn't say much and only has one hand but limbs are overrated anyway.

I hope you shared some sun block with her, cus she looks a bit pale ....

Got a morning ride in today, didn't really feel good the whole way... Maybe because I got started right when it started getting hot, not sure. I think I'm ok when I start out and its already hot, but not so good when it keeps getting hotter and hotter as I go..

Anyway got a 22 mile & some change ride in today..

37 this am @ 17+, but that is deceptive since there was the shop ride of 25 in the middle at a faster pace than the 12+ round trip to and from. Right now I'm concered with miles more than speed, but it is nice not to get dropped right away.

The trip home was disrupted when I retalliated at the 3 pack a day, meth head who was honking at me and yelling to "get on the sidewalk!" while her kid was in the front seat, not in a child seat and not in school.

Note to self, letting cagers get to me only disrupts my spin and tempo, and ultimately gets me nowhere. And as for reporting it to the leo's, they won't do anything if they don't see it. As I was told, "Some crazy woman could call in" on me, or someone else, and have no reason to, "and you expect us to accept what she says?"

Sorry for the brief rant, been some crazies out there lately, and they are more concerned about motorcycle protection than bicycle protection.

Does it count if I had a ride planned ?? I was busy until the afternoon........ when it started to rain.... ohhh man did it rain too. Thunder & lightning and just coming down in buckets. I had thoughts earlier in the day that I might ride in the rain (if it rained), I haven't done that in a LONG time. But it was a bit too nasty for me.

I'll try again tomorrow ....

Side note... we did need the rain really badly so all is good.

You are spot on about needing the rain. We really got it heavy yesterday and today was rather light but it kept the temps in the high 80s. I don't mind riding in the rain if caught out in it but I don't like to go ride after a rain until it drys.

Yesterday, 12+ round to shop and home. Got to the shop for the ride, but there was no one there. I hung out a few minutes and headed back home for a few more minutes then I started back. Man was it windy. When I saw the wife heading back from picking the kid up from school, with a fever, I waved her down for a ride. Then I got harrased by a few cagers on the way home from work. 18+/- total.

Today 32+, the usual. Looks like I'll be the B group leader for a while. To bad the other guy showing up is really more of a C rider. I was helping to get him up one of the last hills when we had a low speed tangle at the top. A little communication breakdown and a pair of right hooks put him on my right, still going straight while I was turning right. Thank goodness for my years of soccer, I leaned into him and stayed upright long enough to fall over like a clipless noobie in a parking lot.

Yeah, been getting back out. Not much ... a couple 100 mile plus weeks so far, but I'm back out there. Got passed yesterday on a short climb at the end of a local 20 miler by a fat kid on a fixie. Boy, am I old and out of shape!

That may be so, however, he couldn't be much of a cyclist if he's fat. And the only reasons that he passed you are that you were at the end of your ride, he was likely just starting his and he has more weight to stand on a big gear. (Says the ageing guy who himself could be mistaken for a hipster)

Did another 36, including my commute in and back with a light drizzle all the way home, not bad, though we NEED the rain.

Well, thanks for that, but no excuses here. I got off the bike last year and allowed myself to get "bummed" over a COPD diagnosis. At 57 years old, you can't do that. As a consequence, I put on 40 lbs over the winter, and am just now getting back on the bike. Exactly the WRONG way to deal with the issue.

But gimme 4 months of 200+ mile weeks, the pounds will be gone, and nobody on a fixie will be passing me on a climb! Got another 2 weeks of 100+ mile weeks to go, then I'll be good enough to jump back up to some longer mileage.

Heading out for another 20 this morning. Hope I don't get passed by somebody on a trike today!

Went out yesterday and today. Trying to get back into shape after the 3+ month layoff following shoulder surgery.
So far my longest ride has been 24 miles.

35 + all day

This morning the boss, literally, was giving one of the guys a hard time. It was this guy's 3rd time on the bike in 24 hrs and after a good pull he tried to drop off and our boss repeatedly waved him back through. Well since this guy didn't go, I did.

I pulled out at like 22-23 mph and backed down to 20'ish, kept lookin' over my shoulder waiting for them to dash by, but our boss was just gonna let me roll on out.

But, then again, when you are a national champ (masters road I believe), you can afford to let some fat, outta shape employee of your's burn himself out.

Didn't get me lol... this time

31.28 miles .... One of my goals met today, I rode the whole G.ville Hawthorne trail. Longest single ride since I started riding again a few weeks ago. I didn't ride it from one end and back... I rode it from the middle to one end.. back to the middle. Then to the other end and back. Soooo I guess it was an out and back followed by another out and back lol. Did it that way just in case I couldn't make it the whole way.

There were a TON of riders from the center where I parked to the G.ville end. I think it was a charity ride that used the that half of the trail. Every parking place and then some was filled at the park.

Great ride though ....
