Steve, I plan on being there but will be doing a shortened route. It would help if you had a route planned out so I can plan on bailout, but I can improvise if need be.

Lea and Eric Z. just responded as "in" as well. This is a party.

I'll swing by the Corner Bakery at the Commons a few minutes before 8:00 tomorrow to see

See y'all Sunday at the college

You know how we always decide at the last minute? I think we'll have a pretty good turnout. See you there.

Cassave 07-13-07 09:20 PM

Okay guys. I'l be looking for any interested parties at 8:00 tomorrow morning.
I'm not thinking of a death march, just a nice climbing and snacking kind of day.

This time, we will just ignore Ovo's taunting and sprint-breakaways at the bottom of every hill, okay? ;)

I didn't taunt or try any breakaways :)

Rock store is kinda long to be making any crazy breaks/attacks at the bottom...and last time I was up there it was like 100F. I didn't do bad but that climb is EXPOSED and HOT.

Agreed. Let the kid blow his spleen through his nostrils.
At the end of the day he will suffer for it.

Where are you guys starting at and what time?

Why not start at the college and head from there? That way you can rally/get more people to go over to PCH. I'm down for PCH

VanceMac 07-13-07 10:09 PM

Stop waffling, ovo. Just be at the commons at 8am! We need a rabbit!

urbanknight 07-13-07 10:40 PM

Ovo, I think I might ride to the start from my apartment - I've had bad experiences parking in shopping centers for long rides. If you want to ride from there (Lindley and Burbank) I would love the company. We'd need to be rolling no later than 7:30 to catch them at the commons. There will be two STEEP but short hills for you to play with on the way. PM me if you'll join me.

ovoleg 07-13-07 10:48 PM

Okay I guess I'm in. Last time it took at least 30mins to ride there. Meet on Lindley and Burbank around 7:00-7:15AM. I'll try to get Joe to come also. Vance be gentle.

I still don't know how good my knees are. You ALL need to be gentle :D
Actually, I'll just ride at my own pace and if that leaves me in the dust, so be it

urbanknight 07-13-07 11:06 PM

Really though, is there a general idea of the route (at least the first climb) so I can check mileage to make sure I'm back home by 11?

+1

VanceMac 07-13-07 11:15 PM

Mark -- yes, same place we met on July 4.

See Steve's previous posts for likely route. Regardless, it will be easy to alter to make sure you are back by 11. Assuming you mean back to the commons by 11, I will guess that will mean heading back once we get to pch. Steve will know routes down to the minute for you, I'm sure.

urbanknight 07-13-07 11:22 PM

OK we'll be there.

urbanknight 07-14-07 12:33 PM

Well, I got dropped half way up the first climb (Old Topanga), but it was nice seeing so many familiar faces. I just took Topanga to the beach and tooled around for a bit because my knee was starting to act up again, then headed home. Ovoleg is a great guy, calling me to make sure I was still alive. I hope you guys are having a good rest of your ride, and hopefully I'll keep working on the engine so I can keep up better soon.

merider1 07-14-07 12:41 PM

Don't feel bad, Brian. I would have been dropped out of the parking lot. Steve, Vance and those other boys are fast, fast, fast. I hope you had a nice ride nonetheless - and them too!

Shprung 07-14-07 01:56 PM

I assume ton of sfvbc came to calabasas (or took the PV ride) because I did go to CSUN and did the level-3 ride (beleive it or not, It is my 2nd only time in SIMI ever) and we end up only 8 people that shortly after (before the break even) got to only 3 (Rojer, Bud, and I).

EDIT:
here is a photo. From left to right where N-I stand for I-don't-no-his-name (or no-idea): N-I, Shai, Tushi, Bud, N-I, N-I, Rojer

um like...todays ride was painful.

Easy up to PCH, Joe and I went to the top of Topanga at a brisk pace but nothing too fast. Came down and made a right on PCH. Then we stopped at some place and headed out again. Riding on PCH in a tight group is kinda iffy because so many potholes and all sorts of random crap on the road. Joe was riding next to me when he hit a pothole and got a flat. I stopped and tried to wave down Vance but he was talking to some dude so I'm sure he didn't notice.

We fix the flat in about 8-10mins(CO2 ftw). THen we were thinking either Las Flores or try to catch the group. Figuring that we could AT LEAST catch big john and the girls, we decide to follow them.

They said they were going up Latigo...So thats where we went. I dont think I've climbed Latigo from PCH(or at least I dont remember it). Well...that was one hell of a long, some parts steep, and HOT ride with WAY TOO MANY false tops. I sprinted like 3 times to what I thought was the top. After the little descent in the middle I got annoyed and just rode at my own pace. Obviously Joe dropped me after that and I told him to go ahead and see if he can catch the group. He said he went nearly all out and could not see anyone at the top or at the bottom of the descent. He waited for me at least 5mins.

I was burned out. I went too fast up that hill at the beginning...not knowing how long it really was.

Rode back through Kannan-->Augora-->Mureau-->Ventura

Ended with 78miles.

I'm in pain.

Time for a burrito.

Shprung 07-14-07 02:23 PM

Ovo, ask Joe to do Reseda; this guy can climb!
If I am not wrong, Latigo is like 7 miles with few short down/flat areas but it get harder as you go up.
