Just an fyi. In addition to the usual Monday ride, a couple of us are going up AC and having lunch at Newcomb's Ranch. Let me know if you're interested, and I'll give you the details.

Anybody planning something for the following Monday? I have that day off.

It was gorgeous up there today. Wind was gusty in 1 or 2 spots, but otherwise a non-issue. The views toward LA/ocean were hazy, but crystal clear out toward the (very) snow-capped mountains. Perfect temperatures.

Hello,
Hope you all had a nice weekend. Today's Simi ride was only gusty northbound to the fwy in both valleys. North ranch was smooth sailing. A few gusts coming back in the pass as you came around right hand curves. Really a great day for a ride!

Who's riding what this Saturday?
The Palmdale/Bouquet century seems to be getting the most hits.

Just wondering how trashed I'm likely to be come Saturday night....

BTW, tonight (Wednesday) is the swap meet.

Have you ever done that route before, Cassave?

Shprung didn't get around to mapping the elevation on that one. Care to take a guess?

I've done it, (surprise!). I don't know what the actual gain is, I would guess at least 7K? It's one of those rides that is deceptive, though. It can be tough depending on winds, too. Some of us did it once when Bouquet Canyon was closed to cars, that was a fun day. Not an easy century. I might go part way out and do 75, or so.

Scootcore 01-16-08 10:22 PM

anyone go to the swap meet????

I am thinking about riding Sat and Sun. Do I have to be a card carrying member or can I just show up and be accepted? I will sing up and pay the fees in the mean time. Herb, where are you riding this weekend?

RideMore 01-17-08 03:38 AM

Sold enough things at the swap meet to pay for the TdPS for both Lynne and I! We just signed up Staying @ the Caliente Tropics... the motor lodge with the Tiki decor (couldn't resist!) Now for those base miles....

You don't have to be a member, just come out and ride. You can go to the website and print a route sheet for the ride you want. If driving to the start, park on Nordhoff between Lindley and Etiwanda.

I can't decide, Steve. That Palmdale/Bouquet route isn't so great. A lot of boring stretches. But I haven't heard of any alternatives.

I usually turn around at the top of Little Syc and take Mulholland down to PCH then back up Encinal. That makes for about a 70ish,8k ride. I guess and out and back to Syc would be about 60 yeah.

Wish I could join you, I have already committed to riding an easy ride with wife on Saturday, she still is pretty weak on climbing, but she is trying.

Next time you plan on riding in the SM, please let me know.
